First month TTC - driving myself mad!

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 12:28

My husband and I started TTC this month, I thought this would be a super exciting time but it's quite the opposite!

My period is a day late, I was that crazy person who did 3 early pregnancy tests (all negative), one today (still negative). I think the constant googling of every slight symptom I've had has just delayed my period as know I would be very lucky to conceive first month of trying.

I've decided I've got all my craziness out this first month and now will just relax and not symptom check every single twinge and headache (and not test until AF is late!)

Can't help but keep a little bit of hope that my test might be positive in a few days, but know AF is probably on the way!

You spend years trying not to get pregnant then all of a sudden you want to, such a shift in mindset that I never really acknowledged before!

Anyway rant over and best of luck to everyone on this conception journey with me xx

In the same boat here! First cycle TTC, today is CD20 and I'm already going a bit crazy thinking, right period is about 10 days out, what can I feel what can't I feel 😂

100% agree the mindset shift is huge and also something I did even realise would be a thing!

We are trying to keep it a bit relaxed for a few months, so not using OPK's or anything, just enjoying ourselves and seeing what happens. Also in these first few months I am making myself only test if period is late. One because I'm trying to be as chill as possible and two because I came off the pill to TTC so periods aren't regular to the day, so a 'late' period isn't hugely abnormal for me at the moment. 😂

Baby dust to you!

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 14:11

So glad it's not just me, and they all seem like great ideas to try and stay more relaxed. Definitely not testing until period is late moving forward. I'm only tracking ovulation (via the Flo app rather than ovulation tests, like you I decided would keep it relaxed for first few months), but my post shows how unrelaxed I have been 🤣

Baby dust right back at you! Xx

Yes I'm using Clue app too.

Are you TTC number 1?

The mindset shift is crazy though. Just before I came off the pill I kept thinking 'are we sure' about trying, and now I want it more than anything 🤣 x

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 14:21

Yes baby #1 - what about you?

Yeah it's so odd isn't it? You spend years freaking out if your period is late now you want it to be!

I've learnt a lot of what not to do for this month, I just want my period to arrive or a test to be positive so I know where I am. I've read plenty of threads on here that say people didn't get a positive days for days after their period was due, but just trying to think it's late from stressing!

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 02/01/2023 14:37

Yes also trying for baby #1 😊

I know it's crazy!

I was the same last cycle, we were being careful-ish and not properly trying as we were seeing how my cycles were regulating after pill. It ended up being a 38 day cycle but the whole time after day 28 I was like I just want my period or a positive test so I know what's going on! 🤣

Have you come off the pill or anything?

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 15:02

So comforting to know you're not alone isnt it? 😊

No I haven't been on the pill for years (had to change pill because of migraines then could never get on with the one they put me on so I've been off it for 5 odd years, not even sure how long to be honest!)

My cycles have been exactly 29 days the last 3 months, but before that ranged from 29-31, usually around 4.5 weeks xx

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 02/01/2023 15:10

Yes it is 😊

Ah ok! I've had two cycles of the pill now, 27 and 38 days, hoping they settle down to be more regular (or just get a BFP already) 🤣 but was on it solid for 11 years so know it can take some time to settle. Xx

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 15:34

Yes fingers crossed they become more regular, think it took me a fair few months to get into a proper cycle when I came off the pill. Frustrating when you're TTC though, when do you know when to have sex?! 🤣 Feel free to message me privately to keep me updated with how you're getting on xx

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 02/01/2023 15:47

Yes hopefully! At the moment we are just doing it regularly throughout the month, every 2-3 days 😂 will do thanks! Likewise to you 😊 x

SEG92 · 02/01/2023 17:18

Good plan, think we are going to start doing that too (husband doesn't know yet but sure he won't be upset about it) 🤣

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 02/01/2023 17:27

Haha 🤣

SEG92 · 03/01/2023 14:14

Still negative, still no period 😔 I just want it to show up now this is so annoying and the days go so slow!!

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 03/01/2023 14:21

Sorry no AF or BFP ☹️

It's so frustrating isn't it! This is what I was like last month when I had my 38 day cycle. I did get over it eventually by telling myself well if I don't get a period (or have BFP) for three months I will go to docs (as NHS recommends). And then of course AF did eventually arrive. But it just helped me relax my mind a bit because I'm the sort of person who always needs to know what to do as a next step 😂

What DPO are you now? Or how many days missed period?

Chooba · 03/01/2023 15:41

I'm in a similar boat too! Had my 3rd IUS out in December to start TTC and after 15 years of not having periods I have no idea what's normal so am overthinking everything and am overthinking everything...it's definitely not just you!

Almondbut · 03/01/2023 16:22

I’m going mental here too! First month trying, currently around day 19…not sure if ovulated or not… aghhh! So much for trying to stay calm first few months 😆

SEG92 · 03/01/2023 16:33

Oh ladies I'm so glad it's not just me! It is really comforting to know.

@Sagittarius25 2 days since period due, 17 days post ovulation (that's the guess from the Flo app anyway and based on my discharge changes etc). So I should have a positive by now, but then I've read of so many women who test everyday after their period is due and don't get a positive until a week, 10 days later, or never at all and a blood test confirms they are. I'm going to wait until at least Friday to test again as it's so deflating.

@Almondbut @Chooba I think the best thing we can all do is try to relax, it's so so hard I know but stressing makes time go so much slower doesnt it? Keep thinking the more I stress the more this period will be delayed, it'll either come soon or I'll get a BFP. Back to work today and thought that would keep me preoccupied but nope, still the only thing on my mind 😔

If it doesn't come after a week I'll make a docs appointment as I'm never really late (apart from when I had some awful family news and I was using protection so knew I wasn't pregnant).

Baby dust and zen vibes to us all! xxx

SEG92 · 04/01/2023 12:53

Still negative and no period but according to Flo I am only one day late for my period (they account for variations in length). So all the tests I've done before are far too early! My boobs are killing me today! I'm going to wait until the end of the week before testing again and not ever test early again (or before what Flo says, I've done 6 tests so far and technically only 1 day late, although 3 days late according to my last 3 cycles).

I am a mental person who needs to chill 🤣

Hi all, so relieved to know it’s not just me. Suffered a miscarriage last year after falling pregnant unexpectedly, now I’m actually trying to get pregnant I feel like I am going insane! Period isn’t due until Friday but did an early test today and it was negative. Trying to stay calm and now just wait to see if my period does come or not. It’s so difficult to think about anything else!

SEG92 · 04/01/2023 19:14

It's so hard to wait isnt it? So sorry to hear about your loss 😔 I'm going to wait another 3 days before I test again, if it doesn't arrive after a week I'll go to the docs. Heard of lots of people who have to have pregnancies confirmed via blood tests.

Baby dust to you xxx

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 07/01/2023 08:49

How are you getting on @SEG92 ? Any AF or BFP?

I'm cycle day 25 today and have been increasingly tired, however I'm unsure if it's just returning to normality and full time work since Xmas or anything potentially pregnancy related 😂

Period is due 12th Jan but won't be testing until 14th at earliest if it hasn't shown as I'm away for work 12th/13th

SEG92 · 07/01/2023 09:15

No AF, haven't tested since Wednesday, got no inclination that period is coming. Keep waking up in hot sweats, feeling tired, waking up early. Think it's time for another test (now 4 days late, day 36, my cycles have been 29 days long for the last 3 months).

Just worried about being disappointed :( if period still hasn't arrived by next week I'll ring the docs.

It's hard to tell twh difference in symptoms isn't it? Good idea not to test early, I won't be doing that again!

OP posts:
Sagittarius25 · 07/01/2023 09:19

Yes I reckon test again, but I know what you mean about being disappointed.

I know I'm kind of glad I've got a reason (away for work) not to test on period due date 😂 a nice distraction

Let us know how you get on x

SEG92 · 07/01/2023 09:29

I just want either a BFP or my period so I'm not in limbo so that's why I'm scared of taking another test.

Will let you know how I get on, don't have any tests, will get some today (not having tests in the house until I'm late so I can't be tempted!!) Xx

OP posts:
Wagsandclaws · 07/01/2023 09:38

Considering how many days post ovulation you are I would have thought you'd have had a bfp by now.

Sorry op, I know it's hard ( I took 27 months to conceive my last ds - I was 40
Though! ) it's hard Isnt it? I'll keep everything crossed for a bfp next cycle for you!

I hope your AF comes soon - yes do give the gp a call next week if still no sign.

Almondbut · 07/01/2023 09:57

@SEG92 got everything crossed for you xx
