TTC after early miscarriage

Hi all,

I’ve spent quite a lot of time on these threads lately as I recently had an early miscarriage (5-6 weeks) with my first pregnancy. I found out I was pregnant in early Oct and lost it pretty quickly after. We had planned to start trying in the autumn and had fell pregnant accidentally beforehand, having stopped using protection in late August.

I was absolutely heartbroken about the MC but realise now how common they are. I had also consoled myself by thinking how quickly we had conceived without trying last time (likely within my first or second cycle without protection), and of course read the theory that you’re more fertile after a MC.

We’ve been trying now again for two cycles and whilst I was glad to have one period, when my second period came I was really disappointed. I know I’m very early in my TTC journey but as I’m 33 I’m feeling apprehensive about the whole prospect of struggling to conceive if we don’t have it easy this time.

My Q is how many restrictions did you all make when TTC? We’re on holiday at the moment and I’ve had an odd drink whilst I’m on my period, and my husband is drinking regularly (though not to excess). I don’t want to restrict our lives too much yet I also want to maximise our chances as much as possible.

Any advice really welcome and wishing you all the best 🤍

@Djockey101 sorry for your loss lovely❤️ don’t panic about not getting pregnant immediately after mc, I fell pregnant first month of trying but had a mmc, it then took 3 cycles after that to get pregnant again which I did find quite difficult as I did expect to fall again a bit quicker but I think it’s just luck! I didn’t really restrict, I don’t drink much anyway but my partner definitely did all throughout ttc, not loads but still every now and then!

Hey all, first time on here. Apologies for the essay but all your previous write ups have helped so much!

I have experienced fertility issues for years, then being diagnosed with endometriosis and having surgery to remove it last summer. My partner also had issues and has been off medication (which was affecting his problem) for just over a year now to improve towards his testosterone/sperm count/ED. 3 months into testing ovulation I miraculously fell pregnant from DTD once at peak fertility that month. However I'd been spotting for days which lead me to do a pregnancy test - BFP!!! Because of the spotting I had an early scan at what would have been the 6.5 week mark... there was no sign of a yolk etc just a thick uterus lining. Hospital assumed I got my dates wrong but I knew it could have only been that day I feel. I had bloods done and my hormone levels had dropped and later that day at 7 weeks I started to bleed and the nurse confirmed a miscarriage.I only bled for 3 days lighter than a heavy period... I had a smear test 7 days after I would have conceived (not realising I was pregnant) which is making me think could that have caused the miscarriage as there was never a sac? 2 weeks after the miscarriage the pregnancy tests are now negative and the ovulation tests are now showing peak fertility (they were negative a few days ago)... I will TTC now but has anyone experienced a situation like this? Falling pregnant in the first place was a miracle so hoping it can happen again but this time to stay! The heartache of false hope is painful. Sending ❤️ and light 🕯️ to all. M x

Hi Chloe, thank you so much for your reply and sorry for my delay. We were away on holiday and I’m now back, into the TWW. Thanks for your advice :)
Now into our second cycle of TTC again after the miscarriage and I think I am symptom spotting. I’ve had cramps today (currently CD22 of a 31 day cycle length) and some light pain ‘down there’, plus sore boobs. Did you have symptoms during your pregnancies and what were they like? It’s so difficult to distinguish between period pain and pregnancy symptoms.
Thanks again x

@Djockey101 hey, hope you had a lovely time away☺️ first pregnancy I had cramps and implantation bleeding, think that was approx 7/8dpo. This time I had some cramping and pulling pains at 6dpo, then sore boobs/nipples started from about 7/8dpo, it was the first time I’d had sore boobs again since the mc. It’s so fustrating that pregnancy and period symptoms are so similar! How many dpo are you? X

Djockey101 · 28/12/2022 15:36

@ChloeN Thanks for this. How is your pregnancy going? Hope it’s all going well.
I’m actually not sure I’ve figured out when I’ve ovulated the last two months. I did some OPKs this month around when I should typically ovulate (based on a “typical” 31 day cycle) and didn’t have a firm line at all, which is a bit confusing. If I ovulated when I should have (even if the OPK didn’t show it), then I’ll be around 4DPO. X

@Djockey101 all seems okay so far, I haven’t had a scan yet so still in the dark about it I suppose but just trying to stay hopeful! I haven’t had the awful feeling of doom that something is wrong like I did first time round so I’m holding on to that! Same happened to me, I didn’t test as much as normal so never got a peak, just one that was slightly higher than the others so I presumed that was peak! I didn’t think I’d ovulated at all that month so was so depressed but obviously did in the end! Xx

Djockey101 · 28/12/2022 15:43

@ChloeN aw, it’s such an emotional rollercoaster but that all sounds positive this time round so fingers crossed for you! ❤️

Yeah, from what I’ve heard about testing for ovulation is that the peak only shows quite briefly! X
