There's an inherited condition whereby the mother is more susceptible to clotting (including in the uterus or placenta, which can cause difficulties when trying for a baby). For these women, doctors will often advise they take low-dose aspirin OR heparin, which are both blood thinners.

Because everyone has heard of someone who needed the aspirin, there's now some idea out there that it is helpful to everyone TTC. It's not, according to my specialist, and he considers it silly for women to just add random medicines based on the fact that it helped someone else with a specific condition.

However... aspirin probably isn't likely to hurt most people at low doses. It can be a bad idea for asthmatics, and cause stomach upsets, and if you've ever had an ulcer etc, it's a big huge no-no. The best thing is to actually ask your midwife or doctor's opinion first...
