Deflated - I've missed ovulation

I'm feeling very deflated today. I've only dtd once in this fertile window and was planning on another bash tonight before tomorrow's expected ovulation.

Anyway, I've been having ovulation cramping today so if I get any swimmers in the right area later, it'll be too late 😩.

I know it only takes once but I already feel like I'm out this month. Just needed to rant

OP posts:

I think some people get ovulation pain before actual ovulation? So you never know, don't give up hope yet. And it only takes once! 🤞🏻

BritishDesiGirl · 21/11/2022 19:01

I would DTD you won't lose anything .

overthinkersanonnymus · 21/11/2022 19:55

@RoseGold24 I hope so 🤞🏻

@BritishDesiGirl you're right, plus I've already been laying tracks for DP so I'll feel a bit mean just going to sleep 😂

Frostflower · 21/11/2022 19:57

This happened me twice, was pregnant both times.

overthinkersanonnymus · 21/11/2022 20:03

@Frostflower really!! Please could you elaborate to give me some hope 🤣🤣

Frostflower · 21/11/2022 21:46

Sure! Ttc number 2. We did on cd 12 but I ovulated on 14. My husband was sick and we didn't have sex again. I was so annoyed! Two weeks later I was pregnant.

Ttc number 3. We were going to try to have another baby but wanted to wait a few months to try for different logistical reasons. Had unprotected sex on cd 10. I said to my husband, 'hmm that was a bit close to my ovulation day (cd13) but I think we'll be fine'. Pregnant!

Frostflower · 21/11/2022 21:48

Those two are girls. My son is the only one I conceived from sex on the day before/day of ovulation. The girls were conceived from sex a few days before I ovulated.

I read a theory that sex a few days before ovulation produces girls so that’s really interesting

Misspotterscat · 21/11/2022 22:20

OP I feel the same this month. Had sex up to and just after my peak LH reading but not on ovulation day and I feel disappointed that I haven’t done “enough” this month.

BCxx · 21/11/2022 23:05

@Frostflower wow! Out of interest what did you have?

BCxx · 21/11/2022 23:06

Ignore my last question! You’ve just answered it. I do think there could be some truth to that theory

BCxx · 21/11/2022 23:08

@Misspotterscat I didn’t know about the theory when trying for our first (and wasn’t bothered either way), now I know the theory we basically did everything you would do if trying for a boy. He would of been conceived on ovulation day, we used preseed too. Now trying for our second and either would be lovely again but I am thinking in case this is our last maybe it would be nice to sway more towards girl then get to experience both. The problem is I’m on month 4 and trying for a girl seems to dramatically reduce the likelihood of you actually getting pregnant 🙄

Misspotterscat · 21/11/2022 23:13

@BCxx my dh would like a girl but I just want a baby so doing everything I can to just conceive at the moment and totally agree that trying that theory feels like I’d be reducing my chances.

Totellyouthetruth · 22/11/2022 08:16

The sex if the baby and timing of intercourse seems to have been true for me. Boy took a year to conceive and the girls 1 and 2 months of unprotected sex.

BCxx · 22/11/2022 08:18

@Misspotterscat definitely, the last three months I’ve followed the baby dust method and only had one try before ovulation but I feel like there is such a slim chance of that ever working. I’m going to go with more the shettles idea this time and try every day after AF until 2/3 days before ovulation. The problem is I don’t ever know when ovulation will be so it’s easy to go too close, I think I’m just going to keep going until I see my opks rise at all

overthinkersanonnymus · 22/11/2022 09:50

@Frostflower I suppose there's still some hope then!! Thank you for telling us your story

@Misspotterscat I definitely don't feel like we've done enough but I suppose I will get a couple of weeks off from obsessing about my TWW symptoms. Keep us updated on your outcome.

I think I'm going to have a break in the new year from ttc. It's been a year now and it's starting to become all I can think about. I live my life in two week blocks!

overthinkersanonnymus · 22/11/2022 11:26

And for even more of a head fuck!! EWCM is crazy this morning! I give up lol

buckingmad · 22/11/2022 11:30

We had been trying for a year then DH got sent away for covid duties (he’s military). I was so upset because he would be away when I ovulated. We DTD anyway a few days before I ovulated and that was the month I got pregnant. I had a girl!

NalaNana · 22/11/2022 11:31

I got pregnant and we only dtd once in the fertile window, two days before ovulation. I ruled myself out too but was pleasantly surprised! I don't know the sex of the baby yet as only 13 weeks!

Quitelikeit · 22/11/2022 11:45

Can anyone help?!

im confused

I believed that your egg was implanted in the lining of your womb nice, fertile and awaiting fertilisation right up until the day your period starts which is when if the egg is not fertilised it drops away with the lining of your womb (period day)

but calculators say this is not correct and that you are most fertile about 10 days after your last period

how is this true when the egg is there the whole time until your period arrives? Or doesn’t

I’m sure I’m being dumb so any help appreciated

Around 14 days before your period, the egg ruptures from the ovary and is released. It starts making its way down the fallopian tube and is either fertilised by sperm that is already there, or sperm which swims up while it is travelling along the fallopian tube. The egg lives for around 24 hours so there is only a 24 hour window for it to be fertilised. However, the fertile period is a few days wider than 24 hours as sperms can live for up to 5 days. If you have sex 3 days before you ovulate, that sperms can be waiting in your fallopian tubes for the egg.

Once fertilised, the blastocyst starts dividing as it continues to move down the fallopian tubes and into the uterus to impact. This takes between a week to 10 days, and once this has happened, the body gets the memo that there's a baby on board and all the hormones change, periods stop, and you can get a positive on a pregnancy test. By the time the fertilised egg implants, it has already been on a journey for about a week but the window to fertilise the egg is just 24 hours.

Totellyouthetruth · 22/11/2022 11:57

Sorry my phone added the extra 's' to sperm!

Quitelikeit · 22/11/2022 12:03

Wow thank you for this! No wonder it took me so long to conceive my children!!!! I’m not even kidding!

unbelievable

do you recommend any type of sticks that I can pee on to see when I’m ovulating?

Quitelikeit · 22/11/2022 12:06

See 14 days before my period would be the first of the month (usually starts 15th) but online calculators say my fertile time will be 24-29 December

im so confused argghhhh

allgoodthings84 · 22/11/2022 14:42

@Quitelikeit start using ovulation tests from around cycle day 8. Day 1 is the first day of your period. Not everyone ovulated 14 days before their period and apps aren’t accurate without inputting ovulation test details. I mean they are accurate for some people but not many. I ovulate between CD12-CD15 so need the opk’s
