When to expect bleeding after a chemical pregnancy? And what's it like?

Hi ladies

I've posted on miscarriage and loss but no replies, so hopefully some more foot traffic over here..

BFP on 16th Nov, 17th, 18th Nov (and I was 4 weeks pregnant on 18th Nov - 14 days post ovulation)

Then I started feeling more noticeable period type pains (still very mild, but just more noticeable) and I had some brown spotting and pink cm on 18th Nov - I think two stains approx 50p sized on pantyliner and upon wiping etc. Pregnancy test then was much fainter that eve. More browny spotting/watery discharge on 20th Nov (yesterday) and mild cramps. Pregnancy tests that morning v light and now today they're saying negative.

I've called docs and it's obv being treated as a chemical pregnancy and I've just go to let them know in a week what my test says - positive obv then I go in for scan, negative and then I think that's it. But I also think that's on the basis of them expecting me to bleed properly before then.

I'm just wondering when I should be expecting to start having the proper bleed? Most people seem to bleed and then their tests go negative but there's been nothing all day on wiping. TMI but I gently inserted a finger to check CM when I was in the shower and it was a sort of browny/grey like brown spotting mixed with a bit of CM. But not a lot and that's been it.

Is it just because my HCG levels haven't gone down enough? The mild periody cramps have been non existent for the last 24 hours too.

I'm sure I'm not pregnant anymore as my breasts are no longer as tender and they feel sort of deflated. Also no longer bloated. And of course the negatives tests after the line faded.. .just worried it might end up needing medication to get it out but I've not heard of that for a chemical?

Hi @Rosiestraws I’ve not got any specific advice but when I had a chemical last year my tests were very light then I started bleeding and had really painful cramps, it took a while for my tests to go negative though.

How many days past your expected period are you?

Also so sorry you’re going though this, it’s never easy 💕

@Rosiestraws I’m so sorry you’re going through this I know how it feels. I’m now coming to the end of my second CP/early miscarriage in the last 2 cycles. It sucks.

I got a negative test 2 days before starting to bleed both times. The bleeds have been same length as my normal period but day 2 both times has been really really heavy. The first one I didn’t have much cramping at all but the second one I had bad cramping on the first day. Both times wasn’t as bad as I expected it would be considering. It’s the emotional side that’s worse as you know what’s happening.

Hello, sorry to hear this OP x I've had a few chemicals, I know how heart breaking they are. I bled from anywhere between 3 days and a week after testing negative, I suppose it just takes a while for your body to register there is no pregnancy x the bleeds were heavier and a day or two longer than regular periods. Sending you loads of luck for TTC in the future x

It took a few days after the tests started fading for me. The bleeding was very heavy with lots of clots and I had some flooding so make sure you’re very protected. I’m sorry.

Thanks for all the replies. @thelma57 I'm now 8 days past my expected period.

This morning there was some red when wiping but then in the shower I again checked things out a little bit and it was just the tiniest hint of pink CM! So who knows how long... I'm hoping this is the beginning, although I am in the office today. Have a pad plus overnight strength period knickers on so fingers crossed for it to be ok if it starts today. I'm wfh the rest of the week so if it starts tomorrow that would be better. Just not sure that to expect but thanks for the replies and well wishes. I just want this bleeding to start and finish now so I can draw a line mentally under it and hope I get pregnant again soon 😔

I just wanted to update this thread in case anyone does a search and comes across it if they're in the same position.
I eventually started properly bleeding on the Saturday, so that would have been 22dpo, or at around 5 weeks 1 day "pregnant" - even though I obviously wasnt then.
It was pretty heavy and clotty - v dark red, almost black looking for 3 days but now has pretty much finished. So I agree it was like a longer, heavier period. I use period pants (modibodi) so I had no leaks/flooding thankfully.
My breasts only stopped being tender after the bleeding had fully started - maybe Monday I think they started feeling back to normal.
I guess onto the next cycle and fingers crossed I get pregnant again and it sticks.
Thanks for all the replies/advice.
