@Carla2601 I'm hoping the group are wonderful and supportive as everyone is on the same position so know how it feels! Nice to meet you, but also sorry you are here!
I think we've decided the NHS prices will also just be too slow, and I'd have to change surgeries as apparently the one I saw is the best one to see at my surgery for fertility related things! To put into perspective one of the other GP's there told me just because you'd once been diagnosed with PCOS didn't mean you then always have it! Maybe I should change surgeries 😂

JSS15 · 24/03/2023 07:35

Good luck for today @Koalie

Koalie · 24/03/2023 07:54

Thank you @JSS15 🥰

@Matildahoney Welcome to the group :) sounds like you’re doing the right thing going private because depending on where you are, the wait for anything to happen on the NHS can be so long ! I’m pretty sure you’re still entitled to all of the tests though, even if you don’t qualify for funded IVF. X

Matildahoney · 24/03/2023 09:24

@Koalie thank you x

I spoke to my boss who went through IVF 15 years ago, they were on the NHS waiting list over a year and decided to go private in the end! Seems like it's got no better since then! I would have thought that was the case too re NHS testing, but they don't do all the tests the fertility clinic do as they're too expensive, but in my situation egg count is far more helpful than just hormone levels! X

lemons44 · 24/03/2023 09:24

Ahh good luck @Koalie !! 💗 let us know how it goes xx

@Matildahoney yes I think it's such a postcode lottery with the NHS too. It seems one extreme or the other like a few people have had no waiting lists and then others have waiting lists of 18 months!! Madness! There was a thread on the feminism board a while back on IVF and the amount of posters who said they didn't think IVF should be available on the NHS for ANYBODY. I was shocked. I suppose a lot of people don't understand the true pain of infertility and fertility struggles unless they are going through it 🤷🏻‍♀️ fingers crossed your tests next week are all ok x

@Koalie Good luck! :D

JSS15 · 24/03/2023 19:00

How did you get on @Koalie ? I hope it all went ok.

I got a letter through today with my initial fertility appointment - how ironic. It’s not til May so think I’ll give it a few weeks before cancelling if it still looks like I won’t need it.

SaraSS · 24/03/2023 22:37

Hey everyone!
Got my NHS letter today confirming funding for 1 round! 🥳
Now to wait for our first appointment with a consultant! Gosh so much waiting...
Typical we get the letter on a Friday so I can't start hassling the clinic for an appointment until Monday.. 😅

lemons44 · 25/03/2023 07:00

Amazing news @SaraSS 🎉 I bet you are feeling excited to get going! I think when our funding was approved we had a choice of clinics to pick to have IVF with. Not sure if you need to consider a few or if you've decided on your preferred one.

Will you be having normal IVF or ICSI? (Sorry can't remember if your situation is male factor or unexplained! )

Xx

@lemons44
Thanks for the message 🙂
We didn't really get a choice in clinics, the gynecologist just referred us to the local one to where we live - it appears to have good success rates though, and similar waiting times to everywhere.
As far as we are aware, we have unexplained infertility, I'm hoping they will redo most the checks though as they are over 6 months old.
So likely we will be having IVF, although both methods are confirmed on the NHS funding letter.. I'm just impatiently waiting for an appointment with the consultant now 😄

Koalie · 25/03/2023 09:34

@SaraSS that’s great news! One step closer ☺️.

My transfer went perfectly yesterday - hubby and I got all emotional in our little recovery room afterwards and we had such a lovely day. A song that has always reminded me and my Mum of each other also came on the radio in the car on the way there so I felt like she was with us (my Mum died a few years ago so this was a lovely sign.) ✨So even if the transfer doesn’t work, it was all perfect 🥰

SaraSS · 25/03/2023 09:42

@Koalie that's so lovely to hear. So glad it was a good experience for you.
Good luck going forward - keep us posted

TheBirdintheCave · 25/03/2023 10:42

@Koalie I'm so glad it went well :) Congrats on getting to the PUPO stage! :D

Carla2601 · 25/03/2023 23:18

@Koalie so glad you had such a special day - everything crossed for the next couple of weeks and beyond for you

Rayofsunshine22 · 26/03/2023 00:13

Hi all please can I join? I'm almost 36 ttc #2 for over 15 months now. First pregnancy took over 18 months, unexplained infertility. We are having bloods etc on nhs now to look into fertility referral (again). AF just arrived today & I'm feeling so down about it all now. Thanks in advance x

Netflixnchilli · 26/03/2023 07:40

@Rayofsunshine22 welcome to the group but sorry you find yourself here. I’m also 22 months into TTC #2.

@Koalie so pleased you had such a positive day on Friday, will keep everything crossed for you.

@JSS15 congratulations! Wonderful news.

haven’t been on here for a while, last time I’d just asked if anyone was on an immune protocol as I’d just been given mine. Before starting superovulation they just wanted me to have one more scan because of my history. My saline scan showed something, so then I needed another hysteroscopy under sedation and unfortunately I’ve now been diagnosed with Asherman’s syndrome; my uterus is almost entirely stuck together with scar tissue. It’s been hard accepting that all this time we’ve been trying it’s been almost entirely impossible for me to have gotten pregnant. I now need a laparoscopy with hysteroscopy under GA and the NHS waiting list is 12 months which I just can’t do because I’ll lose my mind so we’re going private, to the tune of almost £7k 🤢 really hoping and praying that we won’t need full IVF after because I’ll have to beg, borrow and steal money for that.

hope everyone else is doing well and we get more good news soon xxx

Koalie · 26/03/2023 08:25

Hi @Netflixnchilli I’m so sorry to hear this. Do they know how it happened? Have you had any miscarriages or a c section? I also thought I had Ashermans at one point, as my periods became so light after an ERPC. I hope you don’t feel like this is unsolicited advice (and you might already know it all) but I did quite a lot of research into it and have been told by many that it’s really important to make sure you have the surgery with a specialist, as it’s not a common procedure and it’s possible for it to be made worse if the consultant isn’t experienced with Ashermans. Mr Trew and Mr Lower are the leading specialists in the UK. They’re both in London but there’s also someone up North who is highly spoken of called Mr Pickersgill. I went to see Mr Lower at one point in London and he was so so lovely - apparently he’s a miracle worker. I am also part of an Asherman’s Facebook group where there are so many women going through the same thing and lots of positive outcome stories - if you ever have any questions about the process then there’s always someone on there who can help. I’ve got everything crossed for you lovely. Xx

Koalie · 26/03/2023 08:31

Also @Netflixnchilli if you have any health insurance, you may be covered if you go down the ‘painful periods’ route rather than the ‘infertility’ route xx

Netflixnchilli · 26/03/2023 09:19

Hi @Koalie, yes I had a very complicated c section over 4 years ago, and had to have further surgery 2 years later.

never unsolicited, all advice welcome! He’s specialist in minimally invasive gynae surgery - I’m actually also part of an Asherman’s Facebook group and have been speaking with someone who has also been treated by him so I’m feeling positive. Unfortunately I was made redundant from a job last year where I would have been fully covered and I now work for a charity so sadly no help on that front!xx

Koalie · 27/03/2023 11:53

@Netflixnchilli I’m pleased you’ve found someone you’re comfortable with. Do you know when you’ll have your surgery? Wishing you all the luck in the world ! X

Koalie · 30/03/2023 22:31
