TTC at 41 - vitamins have MESSED up my cycle :(

Hi everybody.

I'm looking for some advice and reassurance or both. I have not used contraception since having the copper coil removed in March 2020 and haven't fallen pregnant.

I am 41 and although I have had regular cycles, in all honesty I don't think I ovulate much, I never get a positive OPK and my BBT shows no pattern whatsoever. I have had bloods taken which all showed 'normal' and my husband is having semen analysis in December.

I am constantly googling and whatever vitamins I read good reviews about I buy but all they seem to do to me is mess up my cycle. I read really good reviews about conceive plus ovulation support and began these in Sept this year but since then I have literally spotted almost daily so stopped them after about 3/4 weeks. I have now been heavily bleeding and large clotting since 27th October with no sign of it slowing down. GP has prescribed Tranexamic Acid but that is not slowing it down and it is now affecting everything...my relationship, my work, my sleep.

I have just been taking folic acid and a maca root for the last week as I read maca root is a hormone stabilizer? I just want my cycle to return to normal so that we have a chance at having a family.

Thanks for reading if you got this far! xx

Hi @Khanny
I can totally relate. I've experienced very similar over the years resulting in a couple of hysteroscopy procedures.
After 18 months of anovulatory cycles and heavy bleeding with massive clots I finally ovulated and conceived.
I totally believe taking vitamin B6 helped me.
Wishing you all the best.

Prenatal vitamins also messed my cycles. Pregnacare made me ovulate late and shortened my cycle. Procieve caused early ovulation! I just take Thorne B complex and now my cycles are back to normal with normal ovulation. A lot of people including Drs seem to think vitamins shouldn't effect cycles but they definitely did mine. Im also 41 with shit fertility apparently! I take ubiqinolol now also.

Hi @Flashback58 thank you for replying🙌🏼
Could I ask did you check for ovulation daily or just after your procedure? I’m not bothering at the moment, there seems no point. I have some vitamin B6 in the cupboard, I’m going to get it out now so I remember to take it in the morning. Thanks so much for replying x

Hi @Ninjajay thank you for replying😊I’m wondering about ditching the maca root and just taking the folic acid and a vitamin b6 to see if I can get my cycles back on track. I read so many positive stories about the prenatal vitamins but they’ve totally spoilt it for me x

Hi @Khanny
I didn't do OPKs while my cycles were all over the place, instead I just did BBT. Then when my cycles and BBT started to look more 'normal' I did OPKs one my period finished.
I was also on tranexamic acid and provera for 3 months after the hysteroscopy.
The constant bleeding is so hard - i ended up anaemic and needed iron tablets.
I hope sharing my experience helps - I remember feeling like I was the only one going through this and so annoyed with my body.
Sending the biggest wishes to you. X

@Flashback58 it really has helped me feel like I'm not the only one, thank you.
I've been feeling like such a nuisance ringing the doctors all the time but I've never experienced this and its so coincidental that it all started after I began the Ovulation support vitamins. I have taken folic acid and vitamin b6 this morning and will continue to do so. Fingers crossed me and my husband are blessed with the little family we so desperately want x
