Pregnant after TFMR?

This is my first post. I’m looking for some help. I recently had a surgical termination (5 weeks ago) at 16 weeks due to the child carrying a rare condition. I have already had two children, one healthy boy and another child who we lost to a rare condition at the age of 1 (hence the decision for termination due to life expectancy/ quality of life).

Since the procedure me and my partner havnt been preventing anything. We do want another child and this only confirmed just how much we did want it. The past few days I have been experiencing mood swing aswell as a few other symptoms that match my previous pregnancies. I tested yesterday (early response test) and again today with the same brand and had 2 positive tests, which both came up around 10-20 seconds in. I then went to get a clear blue test which tells you how many weeks and it said not pregnant!

Im so confused. Could someone please tell me if this is likely to be a new pregnancy or is it my body still adjusting since the termination? I had sex around 2 weeks ago now and I’m 5 weeks post procedure.

thank you!

It's impossible for us to say. I've had two terminations due to missed miscarriages and both times had positive pregnancy tests for 8-10 weeks afterward so it's entirely possible that it's still in your system. Can you request a blood test to be done weekly to see how the numbers are trending?

Hi OP, first of all I’m so so sorry for your losses. What a difficult journey you have been on. Sending out so much love and baby dust to you.
and gosh how confusing on the tests! The positives still could be residual hormones in your system, or it could be a new pregnancy. Is the digital test one of the early ones? It might not be that sensitive. I guess all you can do is wait and see and test again in a few days? Holding all my fingers and toes crossed for you. Xx
