When to test or see GP

I've googled everything I can but I can't find anything that relates to my specific query so hoping someone here might have some advice.

My periods have never been totally regular but always predictable (my cycle always varied but only ever by a couple of days).
I had the implant for about 18mths but my periods became totally erratic and sometimes lasted for weeks.

I had it removed 3 and a half weeks ago and it's now been (roughly) 7 and a half weeks since my last period (which lasted for a month).

DH and I are TTC our first so I'm now living in a state of "am I pregnant or do I need to see a GP?" I took a test last week which was negative. I don't want to get into a cycle of testing every week but how long should I go without a period before I see a professional?

My GP is difficult to get hold of and hasn't proved particularly helpful in the past so only really want to go when I have to!

My friend had the implant removed and she said it took a few months for her period to return. Which took longer than she expected. That’s the only person I know, everyone can be different.

once I knew I was pregnant - and for me I had regular periods so it was obvious - I waited a few weeks to notify the GP (which is the gateway to midwife services around here). I was 8-10 weeks each time I think.

I thought it was best to come off hormonal contraception 3-6 months before ttc?

Since it works by tricking your body into thinking it's pregnant then it makes sense you wouldn't get pregnant straight away. I'd want all the hormones out of my first. Also without one 'real' period first estimating the due date is harder.

I'd advise using condoms fir a few weeks until your system has settled then go for it.
