Potential due date clash dilemma

My husband and I have been TTC for a couple of months. I'm currently in the two week wait with about 10 days to go until I can take a test. The dilemma is that someone in the family has suggested a birthday present for my husband next year which requires buying tickets asap, and asked my opinion whether it would be a good present for him. The problem is it would clash with my possible due date if we get a positive test this month, and whilst we're not exactly hiding that we're TTC (I normally drink like a fish and have completely given up alcohol since we started baby dancing, to which a few people have commented on), I would rather keep details of my menstrual cycle private! How do I delay this person for a couple of weeks (without sounding rude) until I've taken a test, at the risk of tickets selling out in the meantime, and if I do get a positive result, what's the easiest way of telling them we can't do it without revealing the truth whilst it's early days?!

How easy is it to resell/ refund the tickets?

From my own ex perience, honestly, I wouldn't say anything. You will be living your life month to month not making any plans etc when it could be for no reason. You could be doing Let them buy the tickets. If you end up not able to go then I'm sure you can resell or gift the tickets to someone else.

You could be trying for a year, are you all set to make no plans for all that time and on going depending on what happens?

I would highly suggest you take a life goes on approach to things and don't stop booking stuff in. Let people know you're TTC so anything booked should be refundable/open to loss. But don't put life on hold. That way madness lies.

If you are successful this cycle then bear in mind that babies rarely come on their due date! You may go over, you may be early, or you may need/want an induction or a csection and have a date given for those.
I'm sure the gift giver would understand if it didn't work out as viable to go given the circumstances Smile

It could take years to conceive, you can’t put your life on hold like this as it just makes it harder. Get the tickets.

Thanks for all your advice! Typical case of overthinking things and worrying about the "what ifs".
