Could it be a false BFP?

I had an early miscarriage about 3 months ago, and when I tested at around 15 dpo it was very faint. HCG levels dropped immediately after. I just tested at 16 dpo and my BFP came within about a second. It was FMP and I practically peed all over the stick. I used accu-clear and I felt like I could see an evap line on the test before I even peed. Could this be a false positive? Could this be multiple? Does this qualify as a dye stealer? I’ve been so consumed with not getting my hopes up after feeling very pregnant last month and starting my period, then not feeling super pregnant this month, but being 3 days late.

Could it be a false BFP?

This looks too dark to be from a mc 3 months ago! I’d say it’s a new pregnancy, congratulations:)

I'd be very surprised if this is from a mc 3 months ago! It's so so dark, almost a dye stealer!
If you're worried though at all just call EPU then at least you can get some reassurance xx

Thanks! Had a tiny bit of pink spotting too and 16 dpo seems late for IB, but I think I’m just being paranoid.

If you've had spotting too I'd def ring EPU. It's prob nothing but if it helps you relax and put your mind at ease then it's worth it xx

I had some spotting with my last pregnancy on around 16DPO too. I now have a 2 month old DS :)
Do another test & see if it’s darker?

@Anon84 I did another test this morning and it looks pretty much identical. A tiny bit of brown spotting yesterday and today. Very light. Hoping I can go in for a blood test soon. I’m in US where we don’t have EPUs. Funny, it took me a while to realize this was a British forum even though no one says mum in the states, but so far I’ve been enjoying the discourse around here, so I’ll just keep reading, consulting, and sharing for now. Thanks for the positive report on your bundle of joy!

Thank you & Good luck, update the post to let us know how you get on :)

I’ve sent several messages to my gynecologist asking her to order a blood test for hcg, but haven’t heard back yet. Hopefully soon. Will keep you updated. In the meantime, my spotting has stopped and I’m feeling much better. Tired and slightly queasy—feels oddly good.

I just finally got a blood test that my primary physician ordered because my obstetrician still hasn’t responded to me. I’m 5w1d and it says my hcg is at 30k, which is insanely high. I have no idea what to think or how long it will be before I hear from a doctor because the healthcare system in US is a joke. I have identical twin sisters and my dad is an identical twin. Those are statistical anomalies. Really not sure what this means. 😳

Can you push your physician for an ultrasound?

Given your family history it could be twins. Are you sure you aren’t further along? Did you test last month?

FWIW, I'm an ID twin and I have ID twins. I know quite a few families in the same situation. It's actually not uncommon. If your HCG is high, you could have a multiple pregnancy (ID or fraternal twins?).

@Pollywoddles I’m going to try to push for an ultrasound. I did test last month in the days leading to AF, but got two negative tests and then my period. Saw my bbt drop along with AF and rise at normal timing (day 14) with ovulation. I feel like I tracked ovulation very closely. So, it seems more likely multiples than a misjudgment on timing. Will hopefully find out soon. I don’t think I have any symptoms of molar pregnancy and I had a chemical pregnancy 3 mos ago, which suggests that my body is prone to detecting chromosomal abnormalities. At least that’s what I’m hoping since high hcg can be a sign of Down’s Syndrome.

@Sunnidaze thanks for sharing. I keep reading that identical twins aren’t hereditary, but we have two sets in my family, so I always thought it was.

There is a genetic link for fraternal twinning, ID twins are believed to occur randomly. In my country one in every 250 live births is an incidence of identical twinning. If those 251 people go on to have children, at some point it'll be one of the ID twins who has ID twins.

I still haven’t heard back from my obgyn, or gpu, but I was able to make an ultrasound appointment with another one. She told me the hcg # was nothing to worry about and I may have ovulated earlier than I thought. We saw a healthy gestational sac and a heartbeat. It was great.
