Did I miss ovulation

You'd think already having 2 children would mean I had a clue what I was doing when it came to conceiving, but alas, here we are.

Using purple clear blue ovulation sticks. Kept forgetting to pee on it first thing so was randomly doing it whenever I remembered. Negative CD 10/11/12 and then randomly straight to a static smiley on CD13 (yesterday). Annoyingly DH & I had started to have a little fun in the morning before DS woke up and interrupted us, so we didn't actually DTD until last night. I got the static smiley at 8am yesterday morning. Is there a chance I've missed ovulation?

You might have done. A couple of things -

Ovulation sticks should be taken in the afternoon/evening not morning as that’s when the luteal hormone is highest. Doing 2 a day in the PM/evening gives you your best hope of catching it as the surge can be really quick.

If you use cheapy sticks you can see the line darkening, rather than just relying on the smily face. I know they generally say that only a darker than the control line in positive and that is true, but you want to be aiming for the days in the run up to ovulation not just that day, so seeing a lighter but darkening line is actually really helpful. You’ve got a window of about 4-5 days to work with really which is helpful to have in mind for most of us who aren’t going to manage to DTD every day.

Brill thank you that's useful. When you take the stick out of the applicator you can see how dark the line is so I'll check that next month as well. I do like the clear blue though as I do find the cheapies just a little too ambiguous.

And I always thought the morning was the best time to check ovulation. Consider me enlightened!

Thanks again for your input, much appreciated

@TTCBBY3 hi TTC, Clearblue instructions say to use FMU for their ovulation tests. I picked them because I couldn't regularly test in the afternoon at work and have found them to be completely accurate.
