Hi ladies. I am a 33 year old and recently married. Me and my husband have recently started trying for a baby. This is our second cycle trying.

My periods have always been regular, I have been tracking them for over a year now. My period is always bang on time or maybe a day late, never early. My last period was 5 days early. They usually last around 3 days and my last was also around 5 days. Very confusing. I did a pregnancy test a week ago and that ruled that out. My last period started 13 days ago.

My app states today is my ovulation day. For the last 4 days I have been using ovulation strips (first time really using them). We dtd 4 and 3 days ago but not yesterday or day before as my husband was away. I am so confused, non of the results are a strong positive and then today it couldn’t be more negative. I feel a little bit disheartened as we are actually trying for a baby now and I don’t know if my body is playing tricks on me.

Can somebody please tell me if I have missed my ovulation peak now? The pics are in order over the last 4 days. Or are the below tests all negative? I don’t really know why I’m posting on here but I need to talk it! Thanks

It's hard to tell. Mine were never really strong positives even when I was close to ovulating. They were similar to that colour. We just did it every day for 7 days in the window as I know I have a 28 day cycle and I'm now pregnant. As long as you've been having sex over your usually fertile days you should be fine. I started about 6 days before I know I ovulate just to cover all the days.

Aw thank you for the advice and congratulations! :)

Why not just have sex every other day throughout the month?

And chill out woman! You don't need to track anything or stress about ovulation sticks to fall pregnant!

blebbleb · 15/10/2022 09:01

@bonzaitree not everyone has the energy or drive to have sex every other day every month. They also may working away etc. I agree paying too much attention to the stocks isn't healthy though. Her cycles are regular so it should be fairly easy to worn our fertile days without sticks.

I would say your 2nd pic was the strongest positive.
Peaks can come and go within 12 hours for some women.
Usually ovulation happens about 24 hours of getting your peak reading.
Having intercourse every other day around the time of ovulation is the best way to catch the egg as sperm can live for several days and need about 10 hours once ejaculated to change into a sperm that is capable of breaking through the egg 'shell'.
Relax, don't obsess so much in the early months. It can take a healthy couple up to a year to fall pregnant and it'll take over everything and then not be fun to make a baby!
Be aware of the signs of ovulation and just dtd lots around then!
Good luck.

Thanks ladies! Yes I don’t think I have it in me for every other day haha! You are probably right though and I need to lay off the sticks and let nature take it’s course. Im just a worrier and probably looking into it too much! Thank you for your advice

I can understand if you have gynae issues. If you don't just chill!

@Alicebaby7 I have used those exact ovulation tests a lot! With ttc baby 1 and 2. Which has been a long journey. So I’ve looked at a lot.

deffo your second pic was your peak. It has stealed dye from the control line and is darker. I’ve seen lots of peaks on these tests and that’s exactly what they look like. Hope that helps pinpoint it for you more xx

Ah thank you so much for this! I thought so but from reading the instructions it still wasn’t as dark as I thought it should be haha! Thank you again it helps hearing peoples perspective x

@Alicebaby7 tbf they used to be much clearer but I noticed 6 months ago they sort of changed the sticks and it threw me off the first month. Then I realised they’d just changed them a bit an add time went on. My positive looked exactly like that.

fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼 Try relax. It will happen. It can just take some time. And that’s all normal.

blebbleb · 15/10/2022 10:52

It can depend on the sticks too. I found the new versions of One Step never had a dark line for me

Rowen32 · 15/10/2022 10:54

Yes, you've had your peak I would say. Best thing if your cycles are reg

Rowen32 · 15/10/2022 10:55

Best thing if your cycles are regular is every other day from day 9/10 onwards until you get your peak, it's only 5/6 times really..

curlymacv · 15/10/2022 10:59

This is a little off topic and very tmi, but for me I always find cervical mucus a very good indicator of when I'm ovulating or about to. Definitely much easier and cheaper than using sticks! I just know that when my discharge (sorry 😳) becomes clear and egg white like, it's a fertile time for me. Maybe you could track your own as a less stressful indicator?

Alicebaby7 · 15/10/2022 12:00

Thank you so much everybody for all of your comments, it really helps :)

I’ve never used those tests but if you don’t end up pregnant this cycle I would get the premom app and use the easy at home tests with it. It’s really good and gives you digital readings when you take a picture of each test, it plots it on a graph and tells you when you’re at peak (over 1). I find it so much more straightforward than trying to judge tests myself. Good luck

Iwillstayhopeful · 15/10/2022 12:28

I agree. Second pic has the darkest line. Maybe look into digital okp if you want a peace of mind. Maybe also look into sperm meets egg plan. Wishing you all the best xx

That was exactly what was in my head, but then I'm old and a bit grumpy!! I don't understand the testing, just enjoy yourselves.

ringsaglitter · 15/10/2022 12:58

I believe (someone pick me up if I'm wrong) ovulation kits test for the hormones that make ovulation happen, not actual ovulation. So you can actually get a positive on these and not be ovulating. However, they're good to use because if your hormones are a little too low for ovulation then you can see it. It's possible that this is what's happened.

This can also happen just as a once of for a woman, so don't stress too much. Keep checking and if it keeps happening, doctor time. :)
