TTC over 35

I already have a beautiful 7 year old DD from my previous marriage.

I've been with my current DH for almost 3 years and we got married just over a month ago. He is 40 and I'm 37.

I came off my pill last Friday and we are TTC once my withdrawal bleed has stopped.

We are so excited to have a child together. DH doesn't have any yet and He is incredible with my DD and the bond they have is wonderful and I'm also incredibly broody, even more so now my own DD is getting older and I'm very aware time is running out.

I just wondered if anyone had any stories or advice on TTC when you are over 35. Is this even a thing? Am I worrying too much about our chances of conceiving being hindered because we are that little bit older?

I fell for my DD ever so quickly so am
I being naive enough to think it could happen this time?

It’s very very early days for me but I’ve just got my bfp on cycle 5 so for now I’m pregnant. My daughter is 7 too from a previous marriage and I’m 37 so very similar circumstances. My partner is 32 though but I don’t think it’s such a big deal with men. I thought it was never going to happen and even went to my GP and had blood tests done last week as I didn’t even believe I was ovulating or I had low progesterone but my results were good and then I got a bfp yesterday. It’s definitely very possible. Good luck I hope you get your bfp soon.

I conceived my DD at 34 after 6 cycles (Inc an ectopic pregnancy) and am currently pregnant with DD2 who was conceived on cycle 2 at age 36. I thought it would take longer the 2nd time round but it was the opposite so no reason to think it can't be quick for you too. Good luck!

Conceived 1st try at 35, I had been off contraception for a few years though.

I am 36 and coming up to 2 years TTC #1 with DP who is also 36.
all tests done show nothing is wrong with either of us, so you just never know what cards you’ll be dealt!
I would only recommend to keep sex fun and not regimented. After nearly 2 years, we are still having sex whenever we fancy, rather than when we ‘have’ to, otherwise we would’ve worn ourselves out ages ago 😂

Thank you everyone for your replies!

I guess it really is different for everyone and age doesn't really factor at all.

My DH and I have both said we are going to take a relaxed approach because I'm very conscious of it all becoming regimented and I don't want to lose the fun!

I'll keep you updated on how we get on. And congratulations to all the ladies who've fallen pregnant and I'm sending nothing but love and luck to the ones still TTC.

Hi all, I am 40 and currently 16 weeks pregnant with our 🌈 baby. I have 3 DD from previous marriage, my DH has been amazing with them but has none of his own and really wanted one. We were TTC for around 9 months, MMC last December, got pregnant again in July. It happens, keep the faith and wishing you all the best of luck

I conceived my last at 37. We weren't even trying and I got pregnant after one episode 🙈
My first I was only 21 and it took 3 months.
Middle child I was 35 and that was the longest of all at 5 months.

Cegbee · 15/10/2022 01:21

Also TTC to my second. I'm 39 next month, my 1st child is 3 next month. Had a MMC in March, although conceived 1st cycle and no luck since. Had a HyCoSy today and we have an appointment with a fertility special in December - still holding out hope that I might conceive naturally though! CD7 today and this is my 7th cycle since miscarriage. Totally fed up if I'm honest but then patience has never been my best quality!

Thanks ladies for your replies and good luck wishes and I'm also very sorry for your losses.

So excited for this journey but also very anxious. It's nice to know others are in the same boat x

I have 1 DD who I conceived at 34, uncomplicated and was an easy conception. Been trying for 14 months with 3 miscarriages in the mix. I have been on these forums for a long time now (le sigh) and really, no person is the same. For someone who conceived easily, there is someone else the same age that struggles. I echo what another poster says - try to enjoy ttc and don't make it a regimented processes. Don't get hung up on timeframes, ttc can be a journey. If you haven't had a pregnancy in 6 months, have a look at getting tested. Wishing you all the best! 🤞

(I turned 38 last month)

Thank you so much for your reply!

I came on here to find support and that's defo what I've found!

Just chiming in to say I'm in SW London and honestly I'd struggle to find parents who had their kids under 35, so it definitely happens and happens a lot. I'd say the parents who had their kids in their twenties would stand out way more than those who had them at late thirties, at least in my circle :) Still on my own personal journey with fingers crossed (I am 39) but it is happening all around me!
