Finding time to TTC.......

Teachermummy83 · 12/10/2022 23:16

Life is crazy.
How do we find time to TTC amongst family, work, life, commitments, and a toddler who won't sleep? No chance of a night away or holiday anytime soon, certainly not without the 4 year old 🙄
Getting to the point that when we do get some alone time, we're so tense we can't relax enough to achieve anything ☹️
Frustration levels are rising - and not in a good way.....
Any hints or tips??!!?

So you never have sex with your partner 🤨

Sandrine1982 · 12/10/2022 23:24

In the nicest possible way... if you don't have time for sex... will you have time for another child?

ThisMustBeMyDream · 12/10/2022 23:33

I see you're a teacher. I have the same problem (minus the ttc!). Never see my partner who is a teacher. It would be a real struggle if we were ttc.
I have no solutions for you other than hope for fertile periods over the holidays... as that seems to be our only chance these days!

We desperately want another child and have done for a long time. Number 1 took a long time to conceive for a variety of reasons, but we really struggle to find any alone time nowadays with a toddler in the mix. We do have sex, but struggling to manage it regularly enough around ovulation to successfully conceive. Always an interruption of some sort.
Another child would be an utter joy, and would fit into family life - we often have nieces and nephews alongside our own boy - it's just uninterrupted time alone to manage to conceive one that seems impossible at the moment.......

He went to bed at 8.30pm after picking my middle up from cubs and doing the washing up. He is up at 5, leaves for work at 6. Doing 12 hour days. No down time at all in the week and the weekends rush by in a blur.

Teachermummy83 · 12/10/2022 23:43

@Sandrine1982 juggling children is the easy part. Carving out a teeny bit of time without them, at the right time of the month, is our issue.

@ThisMustBeMyDream exactly this. And whenever we plan a cosy evening in, unannounced visitors arrive, or our boy has a nightmare, or the dog vomits, or some other disaster strikes. It's starting to feel impossible!

We’re morning sex people. So finding the time is hard when DS wakes at 6am. We’ve tried doing it in the evening or other times of day but neither of us are up for it. We have sex a lot less than we’d like. Solution: grandparents take DS overnight.

Teachermummy83 · 13/10/2022 08:23

@PurBal yes, our boy is often late to sleep and always up by 6am. It's hard. Grandparents do our childcare during the week, but i could ask for an odd weekend. Let's hope for fertile weekend sometime soon 🙈

I totally relate to this. We are sex once or twice a month people in general, although we're really affectionate and in love. We both work and have an active one year old and we're tired. It's hard to find the time but I'm almost 39 and we want another, so have started having mini "date nights" where we read books to each other or have a nice drink and cuddle in bed after the baby is asleep (only a 1 or 2 hour window really), so we're at least in the right space to let it happen, which means it naturally does much more often! We're trying not to stress about ttc this time because it became a chore with our first. No charting or fertile window this time, just trying to do it once every 3 days and let it be a bit of fun. Baby monitor unfortunately required. Good luck.

Teachermummy83 · 13/10/2022 10:41

@WolfMother326 glad it's not just us - you sound in the exactly same boat. I'm 39 and conscious we need to get a move on too. The 'let's see if it happens' approach for the last year or so hasn't worked for us, because I know we're not managing enough sex, so we've been trying to make time recently, but feel everything is against us actually having time to ourselves. I'm not charting, but I got so used to charting trying to conceive DS (it was a chore then too), I can spot my fertile week a mile off, even when we're trying to go with the flow.
Like the mini date night idea. Gonna try that. Thank you!

And...... we've just had a call from an old friend saying they'll pop in tonight because they're in the area. Arghhhh!!! Not tonight!!!! 📈 Feel like locking doors and turning out the lights 😂

@Teachermummy83 you're not alone! The mini date is so helpful. We sometimes also listen to music on headphones together in bed. The important thing is not to watch TV or fall asleep!

Self insemination sounds like a possible solution if you're open to it... removes alot of stress when DTD isn't practical.

Teachermummy83 · 14/10/2022 21:13

@Stickly thanks. Not sure how he'd feel about that...... We'll think about it though.
