Hi all, me and my partner have been trying for a baby for 3-4 years. I'm 32 and he is 26. We found out last year (same time as now) that I was pregnant. We couldn't believe it! We just assumed we couldn't have kids. Since we have been trying religiously every month. I have been calculating my ovulation via the Flo app. I am overweight and smoke so I know that goes against me. I just feel like it's never going to happen. Anyone in a similar position or have any useful tips for trying to conceive?

Thanks xx

What help have you received so far? There are lots of tests that can be done and medication to help if you’re having trouble. Ovulation sticks can also be helpful. A friend with PCOS managed to get pregnant by diligently using them as it’s like a 12-hour window or something.

My partner has had a sperm test which came back normal. I had internal scan when I was last pregnant and there was no issues with overies etc. apart from that we haven't really gotten any further advise. I have just bought some pregancare for him and her along with ovulation strips for the Premom app. Iv also bought the fertility lubricant.

I would push your GP for a fertility referral. If his sperm is fine but you're still not getting pregnant, they need to do more tests to find out why.

Acupuncture . Progesterone cream

if you’ve been timing things correctly for that long, there is nothing in pregnacare that is going to suddenly work a miracle

You need to push your GP for proper referrals to an assisted conception unit who can do more tests and see what is happening, and potentially refer you for IVF if appropriate

Don’t waste your money on acupuncture and woo. There is almost certainly an underlying medical issue that you need to get diagnosed and treated

Definitely seek a fertility referral.

In the meantime, give BBT charting a go, it helped me realise that actually I was ovulating a lot later than I thought. Flo App and other apps just go with the standard "14 days" aka "two week wait". Whereas for me, my luteal phase is 9-10 days only, so I had been missing ovulation with DTD by 5-7 days some times

Things that worked for us each time I got pregnant;

  1. Conceive plus lube
  2. DTD day before ovulation and day of
  3. Refusing to move after DTD, stayed there all night long

Ofc that's just what worked for us, for loads of people none of that works and they do need some fertility help or, on the flip side, some won't need to do anything different at all

Best of luck OP. Can feel like you're in it alone despite there being 2 of you TTC

The advice your getting is good but IVF or fertility treatment wouldn't be offered if your BMI is over 30 and your smoking.
I did fall pregnant after 2.5 years after I lost weight. I've never smoked but smoking can cause eggs to age prematurely.
So along with other good advice please try and quit smoking and try and loose weight. Easier said than done I know that but you did ask for useful tips.

I agree with @Cantbebotheredwithchores
