How was your cycles after failed IVF?

I just had a failed embryo transfer. My period has started today, 6 days after my beta hcg blood test. Overall 7 days later than it usually would come.

Does this mean my next period is due 28 from today? Or will it return to the date it would without progesterone and eostrogen the next cycle?

Hi. So sorry to hear about the transfer. I have some experience (have gone through 2 rounds of ivf) and a few friends who have have gone/are going through the ivf.
it is pretty common to wait a bit longer for your period to start, but don’t worry about it, it may take some time for your body to go back to your normal cycle. Be kind to yourself, lots of self care and relaxing. Your body has gone through a lot. X

Sorry to hear that your transfer failed, I know from experience how hard it is. My cycle returned to its usual 28days from the first day of my period starting after coming off the progesterone. I know it was exactly the same because, by some crazy miracle, I conceived naturally that next cycle!

Sorry to here about your failed cycle I've just had a failed fet in August so can 100% relate to your pain 💔 I had a period two days after stopping meds but I'm still waiting for my second I did have a scan today that showed I have ovulated and should expect a period in the next 10 days xx

Thanks for advising.

It's very hard and disappointing. Paying so much money for very little results.

The reason I asked is I want to do another ivf cycle, trying to plan ahead when via my app, to book time off work.

I had a failed transfer back in may and wanted to get straight into another one, but after a chat with my therapist and the clinic I decided to give my body (and mind) a break.
i was also keen to find out if there was smth I could do differently with the next transfer. I was recommended a biopsy of my lining, on the back off results we tweaked the medication and I had a successful 2nd transfer at the end of August.
IVF is super tough, it is a lot on your body and your mind. Giving yourself a little breather and enough time to process things is important.
we are all different of course but I am sharing this because I also wanted to start planning 2nd transfer straight away, I am glad I took the advice and took some time out.

Ivfjourney1 happy to hear your second cycle was successful.

I had my egg collection in July, but had my frozen embryo transfer in September. It was a mild ivf cycle. Speaking to the doctor after it failed he is going to adjust the dose of meds next time so I get more eggs. Last time only got 4 eggs, all fertilised, only one made it to be transferred and it was the perfect graded embryo. I hope to do a new ivf cycle in December.

@Hyppyb how did things go?

Snugglemonkey · 02/04/2023 10:30

I have had 6 failed rounds and it has been different tbh. There has not been any set pattern.

Hyppyb · 02/04/2023 12:09

@Fox01 a long story....after the failed cycle, did another ivf with higher dosage, got 8 eggs, 4 blastocysts, 1 was put inside me and 3 frozen. I got pregnant which ended up being an etopic pregnancy. 12 weeks bleeding and in pain. Had the methotrexate injection and I'm back to normal.

So my plan is to do a frozen embryo transfer next month. Its not easy all this but hopefully worth it.

@Snugglemonkey were you successful?

@Snugglemonkey were you successful?

Yes 🙂 I had two other rounds that ended in the birth of my two children. My second and eighth rounds.

Fox01 · 04/04/2023 17:47

@Hyppyb sorry to read that! It's never easy! So sad to hear about the ectopic. I got my bfp this 1st fresh cycle but it ended in miscarriage and the bleeding was a lot and it felt like it went on for ages. I can only imagine what you had to go through. I heard the medical route can be very very painful too. How are you feeling about your next round? I am due to start my FET next month but I have no real hope. It is very clinical and I just want to keep going until I'm pregnant and birthed then I might believe it.

Hyppyb · 04/04/2023 21:10

@Fox01 I'm sorry for your loss. Pregnancy loss can be hard emotionally and physically.

I feel I spent most of the time in shock. I'm feeling a few things. Part of me is like I did get pregnant so my body can get pregnant, studies say your more likely to conceive if you try in the first 3 months of a loss and also I remember the lovely feeling of being initially pregnant. Part of me is scared of the first few weeks, scared it will happen again that I will bleed another 12 weeks and it was scary that I could have ruptured and collapsed bled out. So just a mixture of things really.

I have my FET next month too. What's your embryo grading? I have a 3BB embryo. I do totally understand the wanting to keeping going until you have your rainbow baby. It's like youve got so far and you know your body can produce a pregnancy so you want to see it til the end.
