Hi ladies!

So my partner has had his semen results back, and as usual, a text from the drs with “normal”. But we’ve since got the paper copy and the results don’t seem “normal” and it also says to redo the test in 3 months!! Lol

Anyway- I’m having trouble with the total sperm count, can someone help me? (I might be being really thick here hahaha)

So his total sperm count is - 375.40 10^6/ejaculate
The ranges say above or equal to 39 x 10^6/ejaculate - as my partners results don’t show the “x” should I assume it is? Oh gosh I feel like I’m asking such a stupid question, please accept my apologies (maths never was my strong point lol)

Sperm motility - 62% so that seems fine?

Normal morphology - 1%… not so good
Abnormal morphology - 99%.. also not so good

Can someone help me pleaaaase💘💘

Can't help with the sperm count but my husbands morphology was 2% and his motility was bad too so we had to have icsi but I think only fertility specialist know how to interpret the results because we were told normal and then were floored by the specialist with how bad it was xx

Thanks so much lovely!! Ugh, it’s so stressful and confusing isn’t it. Really annoyed the drs said normal. We were so excited - well, we’ve been ttc almost 3 years, but we had a little bit of hope! (I always blamed myself as my partner has a child but he is 12!) but my results all came back absolutely fine.

Were currently awaiting our private IVF consult, as we have to pay, I was hoping not to need Icsi due to extra costs, but heyho!😅 it is what it is. Thank you again💘💘💘 was your IVF/icsi successful? Xxx

Yes so his sperm count looks good, I think it's a typo they've missed out the x
x 10^6 basically is shorthand for million, 375 million is high!
Motility is also good
Morphology is not good BUT he has a very high sperm count so 1% of a very high number isn't bad!! (I am NOT an expert, just had some experience with DHs own sperm analysis)

Thank you!! @coldcoldheartt so high, but not one of them buggers has bloody made it in the past 2.5 years 😅😂 I did have a quick google and saw other ladies on other boards saying 1% of a higher sperm count isn’t too bad! Least it’s not 0% ey!! Thank you so much 💞💞💞

Gps are just general practitioners and generally aren't knowledgeable in this field and quite useless at deciphering results themselves.
I would go with the andrology results from the lab. If they are saying to repeat the test in 3 months time its because the results have came back slightly abnormal. They do a repeat test in 3 months to ensure its not inaccurate.
If the lab says to do a repeat , then your entitled to do so. Contact your gp to arrange another sample test for 12 weeks time.

Regarding the count..
Are the results they have listed from the first sample test or after a wash test?
The first test is the total overall count .
The wash test is a second step where they rinse the sperm and it removes any dead, non mobile sperm. The remaining is the active count which is the most important.

Motility is 62%..
But how much if this is progressive and non progressive?
That would be a more reliable indication rather than overall.
Progressive means swimming in a straight line ( which is what we want to swim up into the fallopian tubes to meet the egg)

Non progressive means swimming in circles or opposite way ( what we don't want )

Abnormal morphology , upto 96% would be classed normal
As yours is 99% , thats in the high range

@MK85 omg thank you so much. It’s much easier to understand when you’ve broken it down like that! And makes complete sense 💞

It’s funny because the “your results explained” didn’t even explain it that well, and said to look at “total sperm count” and not the “concentrate” which makes more sense!! Sperm concentration was 49.40 10*6ml!

So motility - 57% progressive and 5% non progressive! So that seems prettty good, they’re going in the right direction, but may be slightly deformed with it’s Morphology lol.

As that’s defo only 1%!! But hopefully we can try and make changes to improve it!!😅 hopefully a retest in 3 months will give us a bigger picture and some more morphology!! 💞 thanks so much for explaining!!! X
