TTC Blood Test

Hi, we have been TTC for over 14 months and I this week finally had the courage to ring my GP. I had a phone appointment which I found actually a lot more calming than a F2F however they have said we will start with a ‘Full Blood test’ and a 21 day blood test for progesterone and take it from there. I understand the 21 day typically is 7 days after ovulation but does the full test have to be on a certain cycle day too?

I’ve never had a blood test before as I believe I’m relatively fit and healthy apart from my apparent inability to get pregnant 🥴

I think by convention it is done on cycle day 21, as that's 7 day post O for the average 28 day cycle. If your cycle length is very different you might want to check timing oh the test.

Hi, I'm in almost exactly the same situation as you as I'm on cycle 14 of TTC and have a GP phone appointment booked for next week. I almost feel like I'm preparing for an exam, trying to get answers ready for the stuff I think I might get asked... I've never had a blood test either but I don't do well with medical stuff so I'm hoping they can do whatever needs doing in as few appointments as possible!

Hi, I actually found the conversation fine! I only got asked the following questions and it was literally a 3 minute conversation.

Do you have any children?
Have you ever fell pregnant and or had a miscarriage?
Do you smoke?
Do you drink alcohol?
Have you got any pelvic pain?
Do you have a regular cycle?

My GP did mention that they say anything up to 18 months is normal but he would be happy to send me for a Full Blood Test and take things from there. Good luck, you’ll be fine x

Thanks for your update, that is really helpful to know! I was expecting much more detailed questions about cycles and timings etc. I hope you manage to get an answer to your original question. Good luck to you too.

No worries, I have been to collect my blood test form this morning actually. I only have to go for a test on Day 21 of my cycle which is in two weeks time.
