Hi there

Has anyone still experienced period like cramps on a monthly basis but no bleeding while on the Coil? I've had the coil fitted for almost a year and experience cramping on and off around when I would be due my periods.

I had the most excruciating awful cramps. The worst pain I've ever felt. Would stop me in my tracks, doubled over in pain. This was the copper coil.

With the hormonal coil I had all the symptoms without the bleeding, including crippling PMT.
i now have the copper coil, and I bleed moderately heavily but the cramping is handled by painkillers on a couple of days.

I feel your pain OP I had 10 months of sheer hell with cramps up to 8 hours plus every day or other day . In the end I walked into A and E. begging them take it out two months later out . After first week of little pain non, then couple years later off HRT etc (after about five years) no periods or pain now.

Thanks for the replies. Seriously thinking about having it removed.

My GP told me that for some people they were life changing and saved them from hysterectomies that they would have needed otherwise, but that for some people it’s awful. She had tried twice herself and had to have it removed both times.

i was half expecting a fight to get it taken out, but she was great. I was worried about the copper coil due to the reputation for heavy bleeding, but for me it is fine and not being in hormonal birth control has been a revelation.

Thanks I have heard of people having issues trying to get it removed, hopefully I'll be OK. My periods we're never thst heavy was only in on it for birth control as unfortunately I am unable to take the pill.

Since you mention you don’t bleed, are you using the mirena coil? You might be ok with the copper one

Yes I am. Thanks I'll maybe look into that.
