Thermometers for bbt tracking

OK, here's a stupid question from a complete beginner in all this.... can I use a standard ear thermometer to track my temperature and monitor for ovulation? Or must it be one that goes under your tongue?

It has to be a basal thermometer which measures to 2 decimal places. And stick it under your tongue. Also, leave it there until the temp on the display stops rising - some of them beep to say they've finished but I found that was too fast and therefore didn't give an accurate result.

You need a bbt type but they’re not expensive. You can put it in your mouth or up your vagina - carefully. I used the fertility friend app to keep track. The book Taking charge of your fertility is exceptionally helpful, often second hand on eBay or Amazon. It’s a beast of a thing but so easy to read and digest.

Best of luck.

Thank you both. Time to pop over to amazon and buy a proper one!

Make sure to take your temp every day immediately on waking and before getting out of bed, ideally this should be at the same time each day!

And I also used the Fertility Friend app - it might not look as "pretty" as others but gives the clearest charts 🤗

@Batbatbatty Thank you - I'll look at that app. Hoping I've ordered a thermometer with a quiet beep - dont want to be waking DH up too early every morning!

Hi all, hope you don't mind me jumping in... does anyone have a particular thermometer to recommend? Are you allowed to share links in here?
Is the Fertility Friend app a subscription? I'm really trying to keep costs down as much as possible at the moment but want to do as much as I can at the same time.

At the beginning of NHS referral for fertility investigations but appointments are taking so long to come through, I want to do as much as I can beforehand. I did temp tracking about a year ago for a few months, not really seeing any clear patterns, but having read more into it, I have a feeling I was using the wrong type of thermometer as I was only recording to 1 decimal place....oh dear.

TIA for any advice x
