Where is my period?

For the first time since coming off the pill except for pregancies (9ish years ago) I am late for my period, at this point I am 7 days late by my calculations, 5 by my tracker.

I've been like clockwork every 27-29 days since having ds 3 years ago. DH and I have been trying for a second dc for 2 years in November. If relevant, it took almost 3 years, 2 miscarriages and a handful of CPs to conceive DS. I had blood tests done and my iron, vit d and zinc were very low, so was taking supplements for a while and until the middle of the second trimester with him, so maybe need to be taking them again. But never had a late period with negative tests.

Cycle days 23-25 I had what I thought was implantation bleeding (not had it before) dark brown discharge. So tested when my period didn't arrive that weekend, nothing. Thought maybe testing too early, so waited until Wednesday(CD32), tested again, negative. Left it until today 12 days post suspected implantation bleed, negative.

Clearly I'm not pregnant, so where is my period?

Anyone able to suggest?

NHS has a list of reasons alongside pregnancy, but none of them fit:

stress - nothing in addition to normal life stresses
sudden weight loss - nope, gained half a stone over the past 3 months
being overweight - still within the healthy weight zone for my height
doing too much exercise - stopped going to the gym in July (reason for most of the weight gain)
taking the contraceptive pill - not been on it for 9/10 years
the menopause - I'm only 31, mum went through it in her late 40s though.
polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) - can this just happen? I thought it was something you always have?

Part of me is still hoping a positive will appear, logical me just wants my period to arrive so we can start again.

Hi, I am of no help at all but to say I am in exactly the same position. Now on day 35, quite uncomfortable cramps but no period and negative tests.

Like you, the NHS guidance reasons don't really fit the bill either.

If my cramps continue, I am going to ask for a conversation with GP just to check in. Maybe worth you doing that too?

Hey @Glera hopefully you get some answers when/if you speak to your GP.

I called the surgery Thursday and spoke to a really helpful receptionist who said to test again this weekend and to call them again during the week if negative and my period doesn't appear. But she checked the diary due to my work schedule and and the earliest I'd be able to get in (if I manage to call at the right time to book an appointment) would be 26th 🤦‍♀️ I swear GP appointments are really hard to come by.

@SuperlativeOxymoron 26th will come in no time. I think worth you going. So glad they were lovely on the phone. I know staff on the front desk must have a rough ride but I always feel in trouble when I call. What would we do without the service though? Keep us posted!

Thanks @Glera have you spoken to your GP? Did they have anything helpful to offer?

Today's day 40, still no sign of my period, so did a test this afternoon on the off chance I'd ovulated later and if that resulted in testing too early. Nope still negative. So it's a call to the GP tomorrow, although from reading threads on here, because I already have 1 DC it's likely they won't want to look into it because, funding.

You are right though the 26th has come round really fast compared to how I felt when I posted this 🤣

I think you're within your right to be checked over. Something is causing your period to be delayed and even if they check everything and it seems like a normal skip, at least is something for you to know.

I actually have a scan tomorrow. I've been in pain on one side since Saturday and had a very late positive test (day 38). They're just wanting to rule out ectopic pregnancy. 🤞

Let's hope we both get answers. 🫂

Have you had Covid recently? It threw me right off schedule. Anything from a week early to two weeks late, for months!

Fingers crossed for the scan @Glera I hope it's good news, please do let me know how you get on.

I hope they do, might just be bloods again, and maybe hormones.

@ShutUpSheep I haven't, I've been one of the weirdly lucky ones to have completely avoided it, even though I work in schools, I have a cv family member so still lft when I visit him. Good to know that it can knock you off kilter though.

@ShutUpSheep interestingly, I wondered how far covid might impact our bodies. I know little ones who have been so poorly following it. It's a nasty virus, even if you don't get too ill with it.

@SuperlativeOxymoron had my scan today. No pregnancy can be found in my uterus but it could be too early so no answers yet as as whether ectopic or not. Evidence of a cyst from ovulation so it is now down to blood work. Blood test done today, and going again on Sunday to compare what is happening to my HCG levels. All a waiting game now.

@Glera I really hope it's good news for you.
With the evidence of a cyst, does that mean it's not there now? Or does it need to be removed? At least you've only a short wait to Sunday, but it will feel like forever while waiting 😔

@SuperlativeOxymoron the cyst just means ovulation has occurred. She said it should resolve itself on its own. Apparently it is quite normal. Will update tomorrow. 🫂

I didnt know that was a thing @Glera, glad that its likely to sort itself out. I have everything crossed for you that it's a positive scan tomorrow.

Spoke to my GP today, went through the details of this cycle, discussed any other irregularities with my cycles recently. She assured me that missing periods isn't that unusual, even if it is for me.
She's sending me for bloods and wants a sample to send away to do their own test. I guess we go from there?

I'm ok, just having moments of spiralling, but controlling my thoughts, thank you @Glera I've just collected the paperwork from Dr's so I can go to the walk in blood clinic tomorrow morning, they're testing everything by the looks of it.
How did things go Sunday? How are you feeling?

Eck @J1290 56 days!!! That's not fun, I can imagine the bleed after that was torture! It's so frustrating because I've never had anything like this, never any later than 29/30 day cycle. I've been tracking since we started trying for ds 5 years ago and never got out of the habit, so can see all my periods for the time. I'm now on day 45.

Sounds really silly and highly unlikely with me having done 6 tests already, but I'm hoping the sample I give tomorrow is a positive and I've got a very clear reason for a late period. If I'm not, I hope it comes soon and we can get to trying again...

@SuperlativeOxymoron it's hard to stop the thoughts from spiralling, and that's okay. Do look after yourself.

My veins weren't playing ball on Sunday but they managed to get some blood eventually. My HCG levels had gone from 589 to almost 1500 so there is a pregnancy somewhere. Back for a scan on Friday to see if they can locate it in my uterus. 🤞🤞🤞

SuperlativeOxymoron · 27/09/2022 22:11

Ahh @Glera I have everything crossed they find it where it should be on Friday!

Thank you, it's managing your own feelings and fighting those negative thoughts, most days I'm fine, some days they kick my bum. I've got everything ready, so tomorrow DH can drop me off to get tests done, take ds to nursery and then collect me to take me to work before he goes in.

Had my bloods done today 2 pages of things to check, 4 tubes of blood. Dropped my sample at the surgery.

And then this evening, pale pink watery discharge when I wiped, I've put a towel on incase it's more than just a little. Feeling a little crushed that this may be the start of my period, even though all my tests have been negative.
