Clomid?

I am 42, and have been trying since April without any success.

I have been using the clear blue digital ovulation tests which confirm I am ovulating and my periods are reasonably regular.

I have been considering asking my GP for clomid, but it seems this will help insofar as it will encourage multiple ovulations and thus increase my chances - have I understood this correctly?

If you are already ovulating then i dont think clomid will help - it induces ovulation in women who aren't ovulating. It isnt even the preferred drug for that anymore - letrozole is now the preferred option because its more effective without the risk of multiples.

Are you in the UK? At 42, i think GPs are supposed to refer you after 6 months of trying so I'd be getting to the GP and asking for that to happen now, rather than faffing about with clomid. Then they can do proper investigations on you and your DH / DP.

Good luck! 💐

Thanks! I am in the UK - I think I’ve been avoiding asking the GP because I know the problem is my age, it’s unlikely to be anything tangible outside of that. It’s quite unlikely we’d be entitled to any sort of fertility treatment as we already have a child, so we’d be looking at funding it privately. I would give anything to have another but I don’t know if DH agrees! And IVF sounds horrendous. Not sure what to do really Sad

I’m 41 and just starting TTC, and my GP said they’d help in 6 months if we have no luck. I would try to see yours.

Thanks, @anotherpotoftea - will contact on Tuesday. I’m not sure what they’ll suggest, though.

At the very least I’d hope they could do some tests and see if there’s an identifiable problem. Good luck!

Using clomid for the 1st time and still no period on day 41 but negative tests anyone else experienced this?
