One Step Test Warning

Hi ladies, sorry to create such a negative post on here but I wanted to warn everyone not to use One Step pregnancy tests. I got these off eBay as I didn’t want to waste too much money on expensive ones.
I got a positive result yesterday and this morning but was confused when a supermarket test came up negative this afternoon. So I tried dipping one of the One Step tests into tap water and it came up with a clear pink line. This isn’t just an evaporation line, it had colour (photo below). So basically these tests aren’t even real.

@vitahelp I think they are awful. A friend of mine had opposite got stark white negatives when she was pregnant and all other tests were a very dark line (was a week past her AF due date). I bet lots of these tests get it right but more by chance than them being reliable tests

vitahelp · 15/09/2022 19:07

@allgoodthings84 I’m sorry your friend had a bad experience too. I had heard of evap lines but never knew a test could come up with a coloured clear positive on something like tap water which couldn’t possibly have hcg in it. I don’t even understand what the test is and what it is detecting.
I just feel really stupid now..

@vitahelp not stupid at all and I’m really sorry it got your hopes up. How many dpo are you? You’re not out until AF arrives

vitahelp · 15/09/2022 19:24

@allgoodthings84 I’m 10dpo today but feel completely normal and my timing was a bit off with dtd this month. I was quite certain it wouldn’t be my month and was ok with it until taking these tests. So frustrated with myself.

Where are you at in your cycle at the moment?

OP posts:
allgoodthings84 · 15/09/2022 19:33

@vitahelp I’m 12dpo. My cycle has been weird. I always spot from 10dpo but we dtd on 8dpo in the morning and I started spotting harder than normal right after and cramps all day but was fine before so dtd brought the spotting on early 😞. My resting heart rate has stayed up this cycle where it always starts dropping from 11dpo but AF is definitely coming as can feel the pre AF light cramps and the spotting is a little bit heavier (it’s usually so light would be missed if not looking carefully at the toilet paper but gets a bit heavier just before full AF starts)

vitahelp · 15/09/2022 19:36

@allgoodthings84 I’m sorry that it isn’t looking good for you this cycle. The spotting sounds really frustrating.
I’ve no idea when AF will come for me, it gets later each month as my cycles settle after stopping the pill in May. I’m charting BBT and it is very high right now but I know it can suddenly drop last minute before AF comes so not taking it as meaning anything.

Hey!! Just come across your post and here to recommend the Femometer tests they are really good!

allgoodthings84 · 15/09/2022 20:12

@vitahelp I always spot but I read a post on here the other day and someone said they always spot from 7dpo and are now 6 weeks pregnant. They spotted the cycle they got pregnant even the day after their AF was due but it stopped the day after that and AF never came. I know I’m not pregnant this cycle because of the cramping and spotting getting a little more frequent but now I know it can still happen I feel better.

allgoodthings84 · 15/09/2022 20:13

@vitahelp i hope those temps stay up for you and you get your bfp

GeorgiaGK · 15/09/2022 20:13

I got a false positive last month on one of those too 😔 so disappointing!

allgoodthings84 · 15/09/2022 20:14

They look so clear and have colour 😞

Wouldloveanother · 15/09/2022 20:15

Can really recommend easy@home. Never got evaps, even when I was really really looking. Only time I got a line was when I was pregnant, picked it up at the same time as a FRER with an even clearer line.

@DizSquiz10 Thank you for the recommendation 😊

@allgoodthings84 Thats such good news that it won’t affect your chances of getting pregnant. It must have been a big relief to hear a positive story from someone in the same situation. I really hope it’s your month soon!

@GeorgiaGK I’m so sorry this has happened to you too. The seller has responded to my complaint suggesting I must have dipped it for too long..makes it even worse that they won’t admit there is something wrong with the tests and frustrating they are trying to blame the user..

@Wouldloveanother Thank you for the suggestion! And congratulations on your pregnancy 😊

@vitahelp I don’t really know if it’s causing issues or not really. I’ve got blood tests booked to start. I’ve got a child but can’t remember if I spotted back then or not
