Ovulation after Miscarriage

Hello! My first post here :)

We have recently miscarried at 6.1 weeks, found out at 8 weeks and miscarried at 9 weeks. This happened (we think) a week ago. I have just taken an ovulation test out of curiosity and it was positive - would this be a false positive due to hormones still being all over the place (just like a pregnancy test would still be positive), or could this be true for ovulation?

Thanks in advance! :)

Hi @RobertsTTC welcome to the boards!

Firstly, I'm really, really sorry for your loss 🌺(I can't seem to find the flowers emoji, sorry) Secondly, I'm afraid the OPK is showing the leftover HCG in your system. I know this because I turned an OPK positive in the same way before with a CP.

LH and HCG have very similar chemical makeup, which is why an LH strip can pick up HCG if there is enough of it.

Your cycle may take a while to adjust depending on how far along you were before you miscarried. Keep testing throughout and you'll find your baseline again xx

Hi @RobertsTTC so sorry to hear about your experience. I have also experienced the same thing recently. I had an early miscarriage (4 weeks) confirmed last Thursday the 22nd September, the bleeding started on Saturday 17th for 3 days. My doctor told me it could be a number of weeks before I have a regular period again and then go on to ovulate, however yesterday I had a number of twinges in my left ovary akin to my regular ovulation cramps, so I took a test today and it showed a peak positive result. That being said the HCG tests are still showing positive for pregnancy (which can stay like this for around 2 weeks after a MC). Could it be as @SarahShorty has said and the tests are getting confused with our hormones post MC? Or is it possible to ovulate very soon after a MC? I'm hopeful but confused :(

@rosied31 hey, I had a mmc in July. I had ewcm in august so thought I was likely ovulating and my LH tests were really positive, but had faint lines on pregnancy tests. I think it was the hcg now I look back as they were really dark for so many days in a row! I really wanted to believe it was ovulation too, it’s all so confusing xx

Thanks @ChloeN it's in some ways reassuring to know that other people have experienced the same thing. I feel like all of this adds to the trauma of a MC - for example I didn't even get a strong line on a pregnancy test until AFTER the MC confirmed with blood results, which feels incredibly contradictory to me especially a week after! And now with the ovulation tests, it just feels like my body is playing tricks on me :( feel like I should just throw the tests out now until I get a period...

rosied31 · 26/09/2022 17:21

p.s. @ChloeN I'm sorry for your loss :(

@rosied31 thank you, sorry you’re in the same situation also💗
Its horrible, I stopped the ovulation tests too, I only did it to help track my cycle but made it worse in the end! If it’s any comfort my period arrived dead on time and that seemed to really clear and reset everything. I’ve ovulated since and that seemed to be only a day or 2 out from normal so hopefully will be the same for you🤞🏻xx

so sorry to hear about your loss :( i was just reading this thread and thought i'd chip in just in case it is helpful to anyone else lurking, but i had a MC last week at 5 weeks and was seen by the early pregnancy unit last friday. the doctor said that after a miscarriage, all your body wants to do is release an egg because it's 'panicking' that it's no longer pregnant. this means you may ovulate very quickly post-MC. she said it could be a few days or a few weeks.

however like the other users have said, if you still have HCG in your system, this could definitely be affecting an LH test. so i think this should definitely be factored in as a possibility, in case anyone is in that position.

i thought what she said about early ovulation was interesting though so thought i'd share!

PLEASE HELP**

So I found out I was pregnant on the 22nd February with a positive frer test, I worked out I’d be about 4/5 weeks. I then had really slow progression and didn’t get past 1-2 weeks on clear blue and had heavy cramps but no bleed. I went to the doctors and they sent me for an early scan on 1st March, they didn’t see any pregnancy but said “looks like you’ve ovulated again”?! I didn’t know you could ovulate still pregnant or so close to having a chemical pregnancy!?. I then was monitored and my hcg dropped from 128 to 52, they confirmed the pregnancy was not viable (devastated), I had a miscarriage in October 2022 too so it was a double blow.

I still haven’t bled and me and my partner realised we’d been having regular sex even on the day I had the scan where they told me I was ovulating.

My question is, can I get pregnant without bleeding or expelling the chemical pregnancy? Someone please help, I’m so hopeful I may be able to but I can’t find any answers online.

Hi @Hopingsobad sorry you're going through this. Not knowing is a killer isn't it. I had a MMC in August and thought I was all clear, got pregnant again in October, without bleeding, like you. Unfortunately the second pregnancy didn't work out either and I had pains, so went for a scan. The scan showed old tissue from the first pregnancy still in my uterus, but it wasn't giving off any hormones. I assume that's why the second pregnancy didn't stick. It might be worth speaking to your GP to ask for a scan to confirm all the tissue is gone, if you haven't had one already.

@justsayso thank you and sooo sorry for you loss. I now have a new issue, this is just hell….

So since I found out I was pregnant 4 weeks ago, I worked out I should be around 6 weeks, I went for the scan as was unsure of dates and they said they couldn’t see anything. My HCG was going down so they told me the pregnancy was not viable and a week later I bled, not too heavily but there were clots. I carried on testing until I got a negative and tried to move on. Two weeks later I took a test as felt a little off and it was blazing positive!! What could have happened? I have only had sex twice since this positive and that was before I miscarried (bled). Surely it can’t be a new pregnancy!? I’ve got a scan next Monday but until then I’m beside myself with worry. A molar pregnancy was mentioned on my first scan as I had what they called “cystic spaces” but then this was shut down due to my hcg being so low, 250 beta, then 128, then 57.

I’m meant to be going away to Spain for my 30th today and it’s all I can think about, not to mention I’ve got a feeling my partner is going to propose after 3 years together and I just don’t feel I can be happy about anything right now 😪
