Telling your Partner

Hey everyone,

just looking to see how/when everyone told there OH. I know people can get really creative with it! Or were they there when you tested?

also how many times did everyone test to confirm it was a BPF ?

looking for some inspiration 😏

DH knew I was doing the test both times, we were both in the house and I just told him the result when I'd seen it Smile

I know some people like to 'surprise' their partner with a gift or whatever, but he wanted to be involved when I was doing the test and for us to be find out together, which made far more sense to me.

Fridaysgirl17 · 07/09/2022 09:37

My ex didn't know the first time we hadn't been together long, few months,we'd used double protection, pill & condom so I was just doing it for myself as I was unsure of my dates due to a family loss etc but it was positive,I just text him the test 🤦🏻‍♀️, it was a major shock for us both,& with our second I kinda knew straight away I could feel it,so he kinda knew I did the test & just told him when he came home, no frills.

tealandteal · 07/09/2022 09:38

With my first, we had talked about making a gingerbread house at Christmas to tell our parents with little gingerbread people inside. I did the test by myself and kept the news to myself for about an hour. Then I took some ginger up to him and said looks like we’ll be needing this!

Scottishgal1 · 07/09/2022 09:38

Amazing! I want to wait a few more days just to make sure I’m not just seeing lines. But know people make like little baby grows/T-shirts etc!

I probably will just tell him but love hearing how creative people get with it!

how many test did you do to confirm? Or was it a solid line no question for you!! 😊I worry that the 2 I’ve done are false positives (and they were also the same brand (easy@home))

I didn’t tell DH I was doing a test as I didn’t expect it to be positive. As soon as I saw the line I was convinced it was broken but then the number of weeks came up. DH was using the bathroom at the time so I started banging on the door telling him to come out! He rushed out, thinking something had happened and I showed him. Cue the tears and hugs and then he said he needs to go back to finish using the bathroom.

I always imagined I would use some exciting way to tell him but in reality, I interrupted him mid poo because I had to tell him right away!

Scottishgal1 · 07/09/2022 09:54

It sounds like everyone gets so excited they can’t wait to tell there OH!
love that we’ve had 3 different ways so far!
gingerbread.
no frills.
interrupting poo time 😊

i know @Fridaysgirl17 had had more than one child. Do you think it’s different telling them about your first vrs you second?

Do you guys @Glitteratitar @GiftIdeasAlwaysNeeded @tealandteal have more than one?

We have been trying to conceive a child a long time (2 yrs 6mo) and have had one loss. I tested positive yesterday morning unexpectedly and given our history I went for the approach of waking him up crying. Half excited, half really anxious about whether it'll work out!

AliasGrape · 07/09/2022 16:44

Similar to @IWillBeWaxingAnOwl (congratulations by the way ❤️)

We tried for 4 years and I was kind of done with it. I don’t even really know why I tested as I was pretty sure I’d had a period, but I just had an inkling. I went for the approach of walking back into the bedroom, flinging the stick at his still sleeping form and shrieking ‘CAN YOU SEE A CROSS?’ at him

We were both vary anxious things would go wrong so whilst I think it’s lovely the elaborate ways people come up with to tell their partner, I just wanted him to know and for us to be in it together as much as possible. I did about 5 tests that day haha, and a few more over the following weeks - we kept saying we weren’t getting our hopes up but we totally were, and we now have a gorgeous 2 year old.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 07/09/2022 16:49

So glad it worked out for you @AliasGrape (also great username). This was totally unexpected for me (just failed a letrozole cycle and I don't usually ovulate at all on my own). Still feels like a trick and that tomorrow the tests will just be blank!

We were the same but with clomid - had had the last cycle (actually did more cycles than I think is advised for some reason) and assumed it hadn’t worked, were waiting for our appointment to start the ivf appointment.

I have everything crossed for you!

Hello!!! 👋🏻
I’m going to enjoy reading through this thread!

So i had massive plans, which didn’t happen haha!
Boyfriend’s birthday was at the end of August and AF was due on the 15th August. I had a big plan that if I got my BFP I would keep it a secret and set him up all his birthday presents then in the second room set up loads of gifts for him for a dad with a card which you scratched to reveal ‘daddy’….. I even bought everything on Etsy before I got my BFP because i had a funny feeling it would be our month…
Long story short, 9DPO did a test because I felt funny at work, got my two lines and shouted him upstairs instantly to make sure i wasn’t going mad 😂😂

I did one easy@home and one first response at 9DPO and got lines on them both, got my 1-2 week digital at 10DPO and continued testing because I couldn’t believe it, we had tried for four months!
At approx 4 weeks my clearblue jumped to 3+ weeks and I stopped testing.
Currently 6+3 weeks 🙂

I know parents are different but for my mum and dad, i got them the same card which said ‘the only thing better than having you as parents, is our baby having you as grandparents’.
I also got them a baby grow which said ‘promoted from dog grandparents to human grandparents’ (because we always told the dog she was off to see grandma/grandad haha) 😂

Im glad it happened the way it did, he enjoyed the excitement of tests getting darker etc, and he enjoyed planning mum and dads suprise too!

romdowa · 07/09/2022 20:21

I did a test the day before and it was so faint, we just thought the dye had bled. So the next morning at half 5 I did another , strongest positive ever , so I shook him awake, handed him the test, he sat up and went oh it was just the dye and then went back to sleep 🤣

Flowersflowers121 · 07/09/2022 20:22

I threw him an amazon box and told him I'd ordered him a joke gift the other day. He opened it and pulled out a folded black t shirt and held it up to read it and it said "be nice to me, my wife is pregnant" on it haha his reaction was great :)

FTMFML · 07/09/2022 20:24

Posted the positive test to him in the mail... even though we live together he is always the one who checks the postbox 🤣

PutOnAHappyFace · 07/09/2022 20:39

I texted him a picture saying 'i swear there is a line on this'. Id mentally given up on having another baby so I was probably more shocked than him.

NalaNana · 07/09/2022 22:04

Our first was unplanned and so I told him within the hour out of shock! Unfortunately that baby wasn't meant to be. We're TTC now and I've decided that I'm going to tell him by buying a bun, sticking it in the oven and telling him there's something in the oven for him 😂

AgeGapBbe · 08/09/2022 10:08

I’ve been rather premature- no idea if we can have babies yet but we’re trying! I ordered a parkrun ‘apricot’ coloured baby vest and am going to brand it up with my cricut machine. We met through parkrun and he is our local one’s event director so it seemed right.

I feel a bit silly buying it already, but I know if/when I get the BFP I won’t be able to wait long to tell him so I wanted to be prepared just in case!!

EdinburghGirl1 · 08/09/2022 11:36

When I found out I was pregnant with my daughter my ex was away with work so I had to wait 2 days to tell him as wanted to do it in person. I made a card that said Me + you = and then inside it said 3.

I always planned on doing something nice when telling my DP. I really thought I was out this month but decided to test when AF didn't show. I then had to go pick my DD up from school and when he came downstairs after finishing work he immediately knew something was up and thought I was hiding something so I just told him there. Not how I'd planned it but I clearly just couldn't keep it in

Houseelf90 · 09/09/2022 14:10

@NalaNana this is genious!! We’re TTC currently so I am absolutely going to steal this idea!

cultkid · 09/09/2022 14:16

I've screamed down the stairs
"I'm pregnant" and my husband came running up the stairs and kissed me as I sat crying on the toilet (in joy)

I've stood coy at the top of the stairs and said
"It's positive" and he went bright red and asked how it happened as it wasn't planed but very wanted

I've then finally

Found out I was pregnant and laid in bed having a panic attack
I went down stairs and told him I needed to talk and I explained I was pregnant
to which I was told "that's amazing news bubba"

No more babies for us, only the first one was planned but all three are adored!
