When to tell people

When did you tell your friends and wider family? Im 13 weeks and not ready to tell everyone but not sure when I should? When did you and why? Only husband and my mother know.

There's no 'should', apart from needing to let work know by a certain point, you have plenty of time.

You don't have to do an 'announcement' either.

I would be comfortable telling close friends and family now, and be more widely open about it after 20 weeks.

It's totally personal. I come from a huge close family. We told our parents as soon as we peed on the stick and got a positive result (we live overseas).

I told me sister, brother and best friends immediately after our parents, close friends soon after that, around 8 weeks.

Whatever suits you as a family is what is right. There is no right or wrong, please believe that.

Up to you OP. We didn’t tell close family until 14/15 weeks. I didn’t tell close friends until after the 20 week scan. I actually didn’t tell my brother until I was 24 weeks because I hadn’t seen him and wanted to do it in person.

I’d had lots of previous mcs though and I felt that I’d jinx it if I told people.

20 weeks after second scan here. Our first was an ivf baby so wanted to make sure everything was OK before we said anything. Really not that hard to hide.

I waited until about 15-16 weeks will all three of mine. But that was mostly because I had a MMC my very first pregnancy and made me cautious. But I had friend and family that were offended every time because I didn't tell them the minute I saw a second line on a stick

Told each of our parents almost right away. Told other family members and close friends around 13 weeks.

When I was first pregnant I wanted to keep it a secret for a lot longer than I ended up doing. I told my parents at 7 weeks then told his parents at 8/9 weeks after an early scan. I told my mum I wanted to keep it a secret even after the 12 weeks because it just seemed so early but she went on and on about how my aunt will be disappointed I haven’t told her before 12 weeks so I HAD to tell them all at 12 weeks. I ended up thinking you can’t tell some people and not others so I just told all my close friends then in the end up, rather than someone else telling them. I didn’t put anything on social media until after 16 weeks when we had another scan.

I put it on my work’s group chat just after 12 weeks too then had people commenting on my ‘bump’ the next day. I didn’t have a bump and my stomach was exactly the same as it had been every other day I’d worked there up til that point so it started to annoy me a bit that people were just commenting on how I looked constantly when I could have not told them and saved myself the constant comments 🙈

We’re hoping to have another baby next year and this time I won’t tell people. Christmas is one of the hardest times to hide it though if I’m not drinking but if I can get through that I’m just going to see how long I can last, maybe 20 weeks?! I remember being 23 weeks last time and my bump was definitely no bigger than a normal bloated belly so I could have totally hidden it

Wait until you are ready 😊 first PG we waited until 16 weeks (this was after having a MC previously), second time we told friends and family around 11 weeks after a private scan. Both times we didn't share on social media until after 20 weeks.
