Odd bleeding with coil in - implantation?

Hey, I wonder if anyone could offer me opinions or advice on this. I've had the coil in for 2.5 years and not had a problem, though I've also actually never checked the strings before and I just checked tonight and can't feel them! I did have some on-off bleeding for the first 6 months, but for the last 2 years periods have been very regular.

But anyway, last night I started bleeding, quite suddenly, but only a bit. It's very different to my normal, very regular, periods on the coil, starting much more suddenly and also ending much more suddenly - it's basically tailed off to almost nothing in 24h and never got worse than light spotting. A bit of cramping and sore boobs and feeling very bloaty.

However I'm not due my period for another week and have never had mid-period bleeding before, and my periods aren't even like this at all - different colour, different symptoms, etc. The date would also line up with implantation, and I did have sex around ovulation (I think).

I'm aware the coil is pretty good and so rationally think it's probably nothing, but equally I'm alarmed enough by the fact that this is just very unusual for me.

I've ordered some cheap tests just in case, but does anyone have any advice or experiences? Is bothering me that I have no idea what's going on and why I am bloating up like a balloon and not even due to start my period for another week, and probably can't test for another week either.

(Have also noticed a few other things, but not sure if just reading into things now. Have been getting very hot and sweaty the last few days and a couple of weird dreams.)

My coil stopped my periods but i had bleeding after 3 years of coil being inserted and I couldn't feel my strings, I first thought pregnancy because I was having some signs aswell but I wasn't pregnant. I made an appointment to have my strings checked, they were wrapped around my coil and had to be pulled down. This happened twice and I now have it out.

If its not pregnancy then the coil could have moved and caused the bleeding, I would definitely make an appointment to have it checked because they can become lodged in your lining and if you are pregnant with the coil in it can cause complications.

Hope all works out well for you!

Thank you - this is all really useful to bear in mind.

I also woke up this morning in a sweat, which is very unusual for me! Will take a test in a week or so but if nothing might have to schedule in to get coil checked anyway.

Book a coil check.
(I'm the 1/1000 who fell pregnant on Mirena!)

I think I should, yeah. Does this sound anything like what happened to you?

I have wondered that, but I'm only 32 so I hope not...

I had a friend who was also the 1 in 1000 and fell pregnant. I believe she called it the "big fat mirena fail". But I think it's more likely it has just moved, and is poking you the wrong way and causing irritation and spotting. So I second the coil check appointment.
