bbt does not work for me - why ?!!

I thought I’d try bbt again after trying it in the past. I’d given up then as it just didn’t work for me. My results were literally the opposite of what they should have been?

i do struggle a bit and it has taken me a long time with each dc to conceive and I’m wondering what issue this might point towards as all my other tests are fine ? Similar experiences with opk. The 2 months I’d got pregnant I’d apparently not had a peak but I obviously did ovulate !!

The first time I tried it (with a thermometer) in 2017 I was getting similar temps all month (36.3-36.5) every month. Even the month I conceived and no rise once pregnant. In 2019 I was using an Ava too which was showing a similar pattern no post ovulation rise and I had to stop using it after a positive test as itbwas causing so much anxiety as my temperature didn’t rise and was falling each day for 11 days so I gave up and thought it was a failing pregnancy but it wasn’t.

Now on cycle 13 of ttc #3 and having same results - I do get positive opk tests but then no temp rise at all? What could this be ?

I’ve had progesterone tests in the past back in 2017 and they were fine so why isn’t my temperature rising in response and why when I was pregnant didn’t it rise ?

Does bbt just not work for some people ? I thought it would help to pinpoint ovulation as I seem to have quite early positive opk (day 10/11) then kids of ewcm day 12/13/14 but nothing is happening . I don’t know what to do !

Hi @Mysterythermometer didn't want to read and run! It does sound very frustrating for you. Couple of things with BBT - are you using a basal thermometer either orally or vaginally (depending on the thermometer) that goes to two decimal places? It needs to be accurate enough, and secondly, are you taking your temp at almost exactly the same time every morning, before you move or get up? Sorry if I'm saying stuff you already know!

Otherwise, the fact you've been pregnant twice despite the temp rise obviously shows that you do ovulate, so perhaps just don't worry about tracking it and focus on OPKs and CM / other signs? As you've been trying for more than a year, your GP should be able to run some bloods for you which may pick something up? I guess a lot can change body wise in 5 years 😊

@RugbyGirl1 I second everything you said. @Mysterythermometer Also, drinking and short continuous sleeps will impact your temp. Unfortunately I found life has gotten a little bit sad and boring as a result but it's gotta be done. A bit easier for me as well because we have no children yet

Good points @NatGee - I think it needs to be a minimum of three hours continuous sleep and avoid alcohol. There is an online BBT adjuster which can be handy to use occasionally if you are late / early one day but I wouldn't use it every day or depend on it

@Mysterythermometer how have you got on?

Katie2021 · 05/09/2022 09:57

Hi @NatGee @RugbyGirl1 @Mysterythermometer ladies just to jump on to this thread @Mysterythermometer I feel the same way as you! I feel like my temp doesn’t work the same as everyone else’s seems to, I’ll show you my chart.

Every time my temp rises it just comes back down.

It’s been a year since ttc our first child and still no luck (I do have pcos also so I have irregular periods) but after deciding to temp this cycle im feeling like it doesn’t work for me either as I don’t think below shows anything, does this look similar to you?

bbt does not work for me - why ?!!
