experience with contraceptive implant

After the birth of my DD i was fitted with a contraceptive implant. I have had one once before but that was when i was 15 (i'm now 26). Loved it when i was younger and had no issues at all - it even stopped my periods for nearly 3 years, but this time around i have had none stop bleeding since it was put in (it has been nearly 3 months!!). Doctors say not to worry and it should settle down but just wondered if anyone has or had similar experiences. Also wondering why i could have such different reactions to the same thing i had used prior? Any ideas

Could be that your hormones were still unsettled from having a baby and will take a while to settle down. The implants used to be Implanon and are now Nexplanon I believe, not sure if this would make a difference though.
I didn't bleed at all on it but had lots of other horrible symptoms so had it removed after a year. The mini pill made me bleed constantly though, I think it's common with progesterone only contraception.

I'm hoping it is just settling pregnancy hormones as can not be bothered with bleeding constantly! When i was on the pill it was the combined pill so other than the implant i had had originally i had never used a progesterone only contraceptive. Doctor has even recommended going back to my original pill i was on before to regulate the bleeding but seems pointless as i could have just resumed taking that instead of the implant aswell!

If it doesn't settle I would be inclined to have the implant out and go back on the combined pill. Unless you're breastfeeding of course and can't take the combined pill.
Don't be fobbed off, constant bleeding is a real nuisance and can make you sore.
Don't let them tell you it's normal.

I had one years ago, loved it at first like you as it stopped my periods.
I then started bleeding and didn't stop for about 6 months. I was so miserable and sore I ended up getting it out.
I'm now on mirena and it's been great, no periods and no side effects x

I had implants for about 10years, they were great and gave me a decade almost entirely without periods. Early 2021 I started bleeding almost constantly though, with bad cramps and back pain. Doctors initially told me “there’s no normal period” and everyone’s different so don’t worry !! Not helpful at all
Not sure if the doctors attitude was partly because we were still amongst covid lockdowns etc, but 3 months later they finally put me on the mini pill. That reduced the pain and cramps for a couple of months but not the bleeding. Eventually switched to the combined pill which cleared it up and then they removed the implant for me a couple of months later. Totally fine on the combined pill but now stopped to TTC.

I had an implant and it was awful. Had it for nearly two years. Everyone kept saying it would settle so I kept giving it a chance. It didn't. I bled constantly and it really affected my mood. Needless to say it was the best contraceptive ever because I was rarely in a position to DTD and even if I wasn't bleeding, I rarely felt like it. I felt like a new person just days after having it removed. Only wish I'd done it sooner. It's put me off hormonal contraception for life.

Hi, I’ve had the implant for over a year now and I’m a little annoyed with it. I have no bleeding for 3 months and then I bleed for about a month straight but it’s very very light but it just drags out so it’s really inconvenient. It doesn’t cause any disruption to my life it just gets on my nerves having it for a month at a time. My doctors put me on the pill for 3 months to hopefully sort the bleeding out. I came off of the pill roughly a month ago and the bleeding has restarted and we’re going on almost 2 weeks now and I’m worried it’ll go back to how it was. I was just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and if there’s anything I can do to stop the light bleeding from happening
