How long for period after miscarriage?

I had a miscarriage that started just over 4 weeks ago. We’re keen to start trying again but I’ve not had a period since. Does it take longer than a usual cycle to come? How long is normal?

Hiya,

I'm so sorry for your loss. After my first MMC I got my period 4.5 weeks later, and after my second MMC it was 5.5 weeks later. Your body needs to wait for the HCG to get back to zero before it starts your cycle again.

Best of luck x

Overthebow · 20/08/2022 12:23

Thank you, sorry for your losses too. This wasn’t a mmc, and was pretty early at 5 weeks so I’m hoping it’s imminent and then we can start trying again.

Sorry about your loss @Overthebow. My cycle was about 4-5 days longer than usual after MC but normal otherwise. Went back to the usual length afterwards. Best of luck x

I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks back in June. I had a period 4 weeks after the heavy bleeding had started so pretty much on track with the start of the miscarriage being CD1. Hopefully one shows up for you soon so you know where things are at.

Hi
Sorry to hear about your loss. I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks in July and my period came about 5.5 weeks after and I am usually every 4.5 days.

Safari234 · 20/08/2022 20:57

Sorry usually 4.5 weeks cycles so it was a week longer than normal

Aries992 · 22/08/2022 12:34

I seen a period 6 weeks after my miscarriage.

Overthebow · 29/08/2022 14:55

It’s now almost 6 weeks after miscarriage and still nothing, and no signs of it coming either! Is there anything I can do or just have to wait until it arrives?

Overthebow · 29/08/2022 14:56

I took a test a couple of weeks after it happened to check that my hcg levels had gone down and it was negative so don’t think it’s still hcg hanging around.

You might be able to get a scan at an EPU or a private fertility clinic to see when you're likely to ovulate and then get your period. But I bet it's right around the corner x

Melusina123 · 29/08/2022 22:21

Five weeks first time (after CP at 5wks, HPTs went negative within a week) six weeks second time (MMC at 8wks, HPTs took c 3wks to go negative).

It sucks being in that limbo not knowing when everything is going to reset! For what it's worth everything went back to normal pretty fast once I ovulated each time. Have you had any signs you might have ovulated?

I don’t know actually, I didn’t think I would until I had my first period so haven’t been watching out for it. I haven’t had any signs really of my period starting either.

Over 6 weeks now, what is going on!

OP posts:
Rtmhwales · 01/09/2022 05:30

Have you taken a test recently? You could have become pregnant again without a period.

That being said I think mine took 8 weeks to show up after the first miscarriage. There's no rhyme or reason unfortunately.

Overthebow · 01/09/2022 05:45

No I haven’t as didn’t know that was possible! I don’t have signs of pregnancy either though so don’t think I am. If period doesn’t show up in another few days I’ll take a test to rule it out.

Rtmhwales · 01/09/2022 06:30

Definitely possible. Might be worth tracking your temp too so you know when you ovulate and when your period will start. I can check mine fairly reliably by the rises and drops each morning.

Fortuny · 01/09/2022 06:33

Mine was 5 weeks, but it wasn't what I'd call a regular one.

Do you just use a normal thermometer to track your temperature or is it a special one?

Hi @Overthebow did your period show up? I’m 5.5 weeks post mva to treat an mmc and no period yet.

I would speak to EPU incase of any retained tissue. I had medical management, then had to have surgery 4 weeks later due to retained tissue. Have not yet had a period since and my first cycle is proving to be longer than usual (CD24 and only just ovulating!)

This is what I’m worried about. I did have a scan after miscarriage but maybe they didn’t spot something.

I was 8.5 weeks but no bleeding so elected to have the surgery. Now coming up to 5.5 weeks since the surgery. Am annoyed as was worried about this happening.

birdbybird · 06/09/2022 19:32

Hi @Overthebow I got my period today at 5 weeks 5 days… it’s been sort of light to medium flow so far.

Sophiey11 · 09/10/2022 22:46

Hi all. Sorry for your losses. I had surgery for my MMC 4 weeks ago. I have bled every day since. My hpt are all negative. Is it possible my period has come and that is why I am still bleeding? I have had some PMS symptoms (mood swings, pains, bloating) if not, how long did you all bleed for after your MMC? I was not expecting it to go on for this long. Tia
