Cervical ectropion and spotting

Hi everyone.

I'm 40 and TTC #1. (Not expecting it to happen at my age really but giving it a go).

I was told a few years back I have cervical ectropion but was told it isn't an issue so I've ignored it. My issue now is I'm prone to spotting before AF, sometimes up to a week before it starts. I also often get a fair bit of bright red blood after a bowel movement in the run up to my period and I've been told this is due to the ectropion.

Does anyone know if this would affect pregnancy should it occur? For example I'm currently in the TWW. I'm 9dpo today. And today I've had a lot of bright red bleeding after a bowel movement. If this is due to the ectropion as I've been told does this mean I'm possibly still in with a chance or does it mean that it's similar to pre AF spotting and I'm probably out this month again. It definitely isn't implantation bleeding.

Thanks

From what I understand it's the cells on the cervix itself which are causing the bleeding as they are quite delicate which would lead me to believe it's nothing actually do do with the blood seen during your period, I'm no doctor tho! That would make sense why you get bright red blood as well as it would be fresh blood, Especially After a bowel movement where the delicate cells might get disturbed. Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Yeah that's kind of what I was thinking/hoping. That whether I was pregnant or not it might be prone to bleeding easily. Just gives me a few extra days of hope for now anyway until AF does start properly.

I have ectropian and I am currently 10 weeks pregnant. I haven't had any issues with it so far however my friend did and she bled her whole pregnancy and was constantly being checked but was absolutely fine. Good luck, fingers are crossed for you xx

Hi, I had an ectropian and early pregnancy made it more “active” ie more likely to bleed a little (I think the hormones make the cells more delicate) especially during sex or a bowel movement. I don’t think it increases any risk to the pregnancy but can lead to some false alarms, I had a few early scans due to bleeding but it was all fine. Same in both pregnancies.

Good luck!

I have a cervical ectropion that was discovered about half way through my first pregnancy. It was an incidental finding and never caused any issues during pregnancy. I hope that helps!

I'm another one who has an ectropian, had spotting on and off through pregnancy which was stressful and led to a lot of extra checks but had no actual affect on baby/pregnancy/labour

Had it looked at lots and no one in nhs has ever suggested it would be a problem to conceive a second etc

Hi, I hope someone can relate. I was advised years ago that I had a cervical ectropion, I’m now 10 weeks pregnant and since about 6 weeks pregnant I have had regular spotting with brown discharge to full on red bleeding, never anything enough to fill a pad or any pain, just when wiping. It seems to occur on a weekly basis since wk 6 - I have had a scan at 6 and 8 weeks and baby’s heart is strong and growing as should, I just wondered if anyone had/is going through the same thing? Not sure if it’s coincidence but when I have terrible gas and constipation I notice the bleed will start same day or next. I had terrible stomach cramps last night which turned out to be an upset stomach and keep passing wind today (first time since finding out I’m pregnant, constipation seems to be the trend for me) and I have had a bleed today! It fills you full of dread every time you see it, just wondering if anyone was similar. Is it hormone related or to do with bowel movements? Doctors aren’t sure, they think it could be due to the ectropion.
