Sertraline and TTC

Hi
My husband has been taking 50mg sertraline daily for around 6 months now and we’ve just started TTC baby number 2. I don’t want to ask him to come off them at all even though he has said he will if there are any issues with conceiving. I just wondered if anyone had an stories they could share on wether they believe this affects sperm or conception? Obviously I’ve googled and done some research but everywhere is giving me different information. Thought I would ask you lovely lot. My husbands mental health I believe is in a lot better place but I wouldn’t want to risk his health for the sake of getting pregnant quicker. It’s a tricky one.

I didn’t want to read this and not comment as this is exactly the same situation that I am in! My husband has been on 50mg of sertraline for the past 1.5yrs and similar to yours, his mental health has never been in a better place. He has also said that he would come off of it but I’m nervous about rushing into that when he’s been feeling so good. We have been TTC for 2/3 months now and like you, have tried to find information about it but there is little out there (and what is out there is so mixed). Really keen to hear from anyone else that has been in this situation and has conceived as it is something I do think about too. Thank you so much for posting this x

Thank you so much for your reply! It sounds like we’re both in the same boat I think you start to think about these things after a few months of trying. In all honestly I’m not too worried about it I just wanted to see what others experiences were. My husband has said he’s going to try and get a GP appointment to discuss it so I will post on here whatever comes from that.

my husband isn’t on them but I am, I’m wondering if it does affect it? I’m pretty sure it’s fine as they’re used on pregnant women as one of the most safest to use.

sorry I course answer the question.

Hi thanks for your reply! From what I’ve read they apparently have an impact on sperm mobility but to what extent I have no idea! I think there’s little to no impact on ovulation though 😊

Hi my partner is also on Sertraline 100mg daily been trying two months and not pregnant yet. Did you conceive?

Glitterandunicorns · 19/10/2022 21:28

@cartmel can your husband not just ask his GP? Respectfully, it's not something you should be seeking advice from randoms on the internet about or consulting Dr Google on. Conception can be so variable in time taken that you can't really hope to gain useful information on the impact of medication on time taken to conceive.

Best of luck.

Respectfully, why are you commenting on an Inactive post from months ago?? And he has asked the GP thank you- as I stated in one of the comments you clearly didn’t read. I was asking for anyones experiences not advice just out of sheer interest. And of course medication can have an affect on our overall health which would include conception/fertility. Thanks
