Strange cycle, positive ovulation at day 32

Hi,

I have had something strange happen and not sure what is going on. My cycles are irregular and are anything between 28-35 days. I randomly did an ovulation test today, as noticed changes in my discharge, and it came back positive (peak as solid smiley face). The line is also very dark compared to the test line.

I'm really confused as I'm actually due on my period. My app stated Monday I'd come on but I haven't. I wouldn't say I'm properly late as I class anything post 35 days as late due to my irregular cycles. I'm honestly perplexed. I have also noticed I haven't had any of my period symptoms such as bigger/sore boobs and cramping, cravings for sweet things and chin spots. My skin is glowing!

Unfortunately I haven't bothered to track my cycle this month as trying to take a break from it as caused anxiety. For this reason I cant be sure If I've ovulated already. It just seems unlike my body to ovulate so late when this has never happened before. Any ideas? Should I speak to my doctor?

Thanks

I read on a post here last week that some women get a peak OPK just before their period comes - something to do with changing hormone levels. I've also read elsewhete you can get LH surges at other times during your cycle, not just before ovulation.

Have you taken a pregnancy test? If you could already be due on and not come on it’s probably worth taking a test

I get dark LH test lines when AF is about to arrive within the next couple of days.

I ovulated late when I had covid last cycle, maybe there’s a chance you could have had a virus asymptomatically

It could be many things I’m not sure if a GP would do much about a one off late ovulation which may not even be a late ovulation as it’s common and many different normal things can cause it

Thanks, I took one in case and it was negative. Expected that as I have not dtd a lot this month. I am starting to get cramping and back pain so maybe it's as someone said a surge before my period. I didnt know that could happen. I find tracking hormones so exhausting!! I just found it strange that my discharge is the same consistency as when ovulating- I didn't have this around when I normally ovulate. It might be that I'm having a really late ovulation too. I have been poorly this month and be started back on medication so maybe these are all factors. At least I've learnt something new!

@Bobbi44 feeling poorly can put back ovulation as body delays ovulation to concentrate on fighting the illness and starting medication can mess with ovulation too so either or both of those could be a factor.

it could even be that subconsciously inside you’ve been stressing a bit by not tracking as not knowing what’s going on? I couldn’t track on my last cycle which was also my covid cycle and it stressed me more than when I do use opk’s.

I would crack on with dtd if possible in case near ovulation but also take another pregnancy test in a few days if no AF in case you are pregnant but not showing on the test yet.

I know how frustrating this must be for you I felt the same last cycle but at least I knew it was because of covid. It happened 2 cycles before that too but wasn’t ttc then and no idea why it happened that time but it was my first month using opk just to see when I ovulate etc before starting to ttc so I was probably stressing without realising it. I’m usually 26-28 days without fail so I really get how annoying it is.

hopefully it’s because your pregnant though but I thought I would give different options to hopefully put your mind at ease a bit if you’re not pregnant as random late ovulation are normal. If it starts to consistently change then definitely see GP

@allgoodthings84, thank you, your post is reassuring. Yes it is really frustrating and I've never experienced it before so was a bit worried! I know my cycles are irregular but not abnormal or anything. All I can think is that it is due to illness and having to restart medication that is quite strong. At least I am not the only one to experience this. I haven't tracked this month as I was honestly trying to relax and not over focus. I've been using an app for 2 years and only recently to help conceive and I've found it's made me anxious and obsessive, making me think there is something wrong as nothing has happened yet. I thought switching off from it would actually help! I found the opk useful but you have to get the hang of it if using strips and the digital one had to get used to my body. Hopefully you will find them beneficial.
I also struggle to dtd as partner has lower sex drive and sometimes it's so bloody difficult, especially when my cycles are already irregular. It's so hard trying to get the timing right and at times I just feel like giving up : ( doesn't help when absolutely everyone around you seems to fall easily and you're struggling sort of thing.

I will keep an eye on it. If it happens more than once I will deffo visit my doctor. For now just seems a freak occurrence.

Thanks :)

@Bobbi44 i thought it would be easier than it is. I knew it might take awhile but I never realised how hard it would be emotionally. It was so easy with my daughter as we wasn’t actively ttc so there wasn’t any worrying

Bobbi44 · 03/08/2022 11:58

@allgoodthings84, I feel you. When I was a lot younger it happened but sadly didn't keep as was studying. Now that I'm ready its not happening and nowhere near as easy. It's made me realise that conception is quite remarkable given us women only have a small window each month. I hope things work out for you. Sending lots of luck to you 🙂 x
