Hi all.

I was just wondering if anyone is/has been in a relationship with an older man and has conceived a child?

We are thinking about having children however I have read that as a man gets older the quality of sperm is affected and this can result in abnormalities in children.

I just want a bit of insight from someone who is in, has been or is going through a similar situation to myself.

Thank you .

Not quite what you’re looking for but my dad had his last child - my half-brother - at the age of 52. Absolutely healthy and well.

Statistically speaking yes, you’ll have higher risks with age but the risks will still be relatively low. E.g you read that the risk of still birth triples for mothers over 40 and freak out but the actual number is still only 0.5%.

Unfortunately no one is completely safe either regardless of age - two hardest cases of autism and DS among the people I know were born to 19-20yo mums. It’s a gamble isn’t it.

Hope it all works out for you x

@stardust00 thank you, I appreciate you taking the time out to respond. A lot to consider and as you said no one is completely safe. Everyone wants the best for their child and if I can prevent anything happening from my end then I've got to weigh up the pros and cons carefully but whatever the outcome a child will always be loved and cherished dearly. ❤️
