I just stumbled across this, sorry if it’s mainstream knowledge but there seems to be a lot of ‘got my peak so DTD tonight’ posts, so assuming it isn’t?

LH surges vary a lot in duration, although on average they last around 12 to 36 hours. A study observing 107 women over 326 cycles noted that 75% of them would ovulate under 48 hours after their first positive LH test (what we refer to as “peak fertility”).
For just 6% of them, their surge ended before the ovulation day was confirmed via ultrasound. For 94% of them, their LH surge continued after ovulation day and, out of these women, 60% still had positive LH tests more than 3 days after the egg was released!
This means that waiting until you receive your darkest LH test (indicating the highest concentration of LH in urine), may cause you to miss your fertile window entirely.

@Wouldloveanother I gave up on OPKs for that very reason. Found tracking cervical mucus a lot more helpful - as it gives you a longer window - and much cheaper, too! (After having spent ££ on Clearblue advanced digital tests)

Don’t blame you Stardust - annoyingly I don’t produce much CM, and the difference between fertile and non fertile isn’t as clear as it was before having DD. Opks have been best for me as I get quite clear results from the cheap Amazon ones. I find it interesting that DTD when you get the peak is often too late though.

Yeah agree CM can also be confusing @Wouldloveanother - it's all such a science fgs. Cheap ones never worked for me though as I just drink too much water, so had to choose the lesser evil of CM tracking😅
