TTC while breastfeeding

Hi all,

We are looking to start trying for our second baby.

I have a 16MO DS who, despite my very best efforts, just cannot be weaned from breastfeeding! He only feeds at night now, but is a poor sleeper so often ends up feeding multiple times a night. My periods have not yet returned, so I realise my chances of getting pregnant are slim to none at the moment. However, I have noticed changes recently in my CM - in that it seems to be similar to how it was pre my first pregnancy. Does anyone have any experience of trying to get pregnant while will breastfeeding and while periods are yet to return?

Yes - both ds2 and dc3 conceived while breastfeeding. Both ds1 and DS2 were night milk monsters.

I knew I wanted to ttc, thought unlikely while bf. I actually found it easier to drop the day feeds - much easier to distract them, and could give cows milk at that age. Periods came back at 17ish months both times.

Yes I’ve had no problems dropping day feeds. Think going back to work helped with that. I’m presuming your periods came back before you got pregnant with both your 2nd and 3rd? I’ve heard rare tales of people getting pregnant with no signs of their period?!

@Kstar321 I never had a period between DD1 and DS1- they are 16 months apart! DD1 was weaning (advice was to start at 4 months back then) but still BF fairly regularly.
I’m currently still BF DS2 (he’s 13mnths but a total milk monster) whilst TTC but no luck as yet (period returned when DS2 was 8 mnths).

Ah, well I found dropping day feeds was enough to get them back. I did have a period between 1 and 2, then no period and a mc, followed by pregnant with DC3.
