Having a baby at 39

Hello I’m new here. I have just turned 39 and have a 5 year old little boy. I am so broody I would give anything for another baby however I feel like I am too old. I am hoping people can give me some happy success stories of having a child after 39 or likewise give me reasons that validate my worries thank you xxx

Broodiness at your age is very, very common. It's your body's "last call for alcohol", for lack of a better expression.

What's most important is your situation. Finances, work, could you manage and cope with a child if they were born with serious disabilities, etc...

Dd4 was born when I was 39. She’s an amazing little girl. I did have a tough pregnancy though - gestational diabetes for the first time. But in your shoes I would do it.

39 isn't old where I am (London) for a baby, not at all.

My last was at 42. I'm 48 now. Hes 5 and couldn't imagine life without him. 2 teenage DC , they adore him

Good luck

I had my first, and only child, at 39. I had an easy pregnancy, worked until a couple of weeks before birth. Home birth went like a dream. I am glad I waited until that age and lucky it worked well. Good luck whatever you decide op.

I had a baby at 42, he was born at home and it was text book pregnancy and birth. I'm now 55 with a 13 ds + 3 other older Ds . He is an absolute joy, a cheeky fucker but so much fun. He keeps me young . Do it....I don't regret one minute being an older mum and we are very close . I have made a conscious effort to keep very fit, so I have the best chance of seeing him become a parent one day.

I had DS2 a couple of months before I turned 40, and one of my friends had her daughter in her late 40’s. Your age is not an issue 🙂

Apollonia1 · 14/07/2022 23:54

I had twins at 47. Textbook pregnancy (no symptoms at all) and planned c-section birth (back to normal within a day or two).

I think since you already have a young child, why not.

Cbrown1401 · 14/07/2022 23:56

Yeah I worry about being an old parent like when I do the school run and stuff. I don’t know my little boy is really demanding so I see it would be so hard. But the amount I crave a baby again is overwhelming x

You had your lb 5 years ago. There's not that much of a difference really is there 🤔

Cbrown1401 · 15/07/2022 00:28

There is - there’s 5 years plus another 2 for me to get pregnant and actually carry and have a baby I was 34 opposed to 40 so massive difference

Well as long as you're physically able to get pregnant, you're not too old.

pumpkinpie01 · 15/07/2022 00:45

I did with a 12 year gap , 4 miscarriages first then a very easy pregnancy.

Phrenologistsfinger · 15/07/2022 01:54

To balance out the stories - it is not doable for everyone. I started ttc at 37, after 10 losses we started IVF. At 39, we got only one chromosomally normal embryo out of 5 embryos, from 3 egg retrievals (33 eggs, 19 of which fertilised). It’s 97% likely my crappy elderly eggs behind that. At 39, I am apparently biologically past it!

Phrenologistsfinger · 15/07/2022 01:55

Oh, and I’m not exactly an outlier. Lots of people my age get this result, I am statistically normal unfortunately.
