Irregular cycles 36 - 51 days!

Hi there,
I wondered if anyone is in a similar boat to me. I’ve been off the pill for a year ttc and my cycles are all over the place - they range from 36 to 42 to 47 to 51!

I’ve been told there’s no signs of pcos by my gynaecologist and my bloods/hormones are coming back normal and I seem to be ovulating. I’m now waiting on the nhs to be referred to a fertility specialist as I’ve heard they can prescribe things like clomid ahead of ivf etc?

I wondered if anyone had similar experiences or a success with irregular cycles and what you did? Just find it so frustrating that we have even less time to try with 51 day cycles and it’s incredibly exhausting.

thank you!

Hi! I have very long cycles too! Up to 90 days. It is exhausting!

I do have a DS who was conceived during a 4 month cycle. Just pure luck as we weren't actively trying.

I also have No Pcos but will book in for bloods soon and a check up. I've been trawling these boards and looking any pearls of wisdom. Lots of people have recommend some Vit to help with regulating periods and ovulation. Mainly agnus castus and myo insoitol. I've started to take both and hope that they can help some.

Hi @Sstory

Yes, my cycle varies from 29/39 days.

I've had bloods done at my GP and ovulation is confirmed (so DR wasn't confirmed tried to write me off) but I went for a private fertility test which showed I have a high AMH - sign of PCOS.
I would push the specialist when you get one to try test the AMH levels. X

Similar situation. Came off the pill, cycles really long and irregular and then just stopped having periods. Blood tests indicated PCOS because not ovulating on the month of blood test but no ultrasound to confirm, and I don’t have the typical symptoms of PCOS (was during 1st lockdown so getting an apt for anything was impossible). So I don’t know if I have pcos or not. I was taking vitamin B for hormone regulation and myo-inositol as had read it can help. I was told cycle longer than 40 days is not normal, and would indicate something isn’t working properly. Got referred to fertility clinic and the Dr said let’s not bother wasting more time trying to figure it out, let’s try Clomid. So we did and I got pregnant first cycle. Great success but we never investigated what the problem was. Since I gave birth my periods have come back regularly, but I still have a feeling we are going to need help for TTC baby 2. I would go to the NHS apt and get every test you can. If you can go private to a one stop clinic that saves time too. I know how hard it is, and how shit it feels, but I don’t wanna give you false hope and say yes just relax and have sex and it will happen. Because I was told- it won’t. Sometimes it does for some people, if they’re having a cycle that clicks back into place and they ovulate that month, and happen to have sex at the right time. Cards have to be stacked in your favour and it’s not something you can track with cycles that range in length and are so long at times. Other option my GP told me to do was to have sex every other day. We tried this but after 4 months we were tired and it was becoming a chore. Best of luck

I average cycles of around 50 days. It is very frustrating but we did manage to conceive DD1 after 7 months and DD2 took about 18 months in total.

My cycles were 33-60 days and irregular, they started getting a little better after id been off the pill for a year. I conceived my daughter about 5 cycles after that but the cycle I did conceive I had ovulated about cd16 which was early for me.
I also DTD that cycle as soon as I had ewcm because I seemed to have that a few days before any positives on opks.
Miraculously since having my daughter I've had regular cycles
Good luck
