Tracking cycle after pregnancy

I only had DD 3 weeks ago and HV and midwives are talking about contraception. I really want to let my body settle and not addle myself with hormones immediately. I used cycle tracking to prevent pregnancy and cycle tracking to get her so I feel no need in shoving a coil up there right now.

Getting pregnant again so soon would not be ideal after a section so happy to use condoms- but I want to be aware of when ovulation is occurring.

I obviously can’t temperature chart right now as my sleep is quite interrupted, so I imagine it’s just a case of OTKs?

when should I start? When the lochia stops, before?

Start when lochia stops, are you breastfeeding? Because that can stop your periods coming back but if you aren’t then it will be easier for you to track cycles as they should be more regular. You can use OPKs still and monitoring cervical mucus and you’ll get an idea of ovulation that way!

I'd be very very careful if I were you - one of my friends got pregnant again by accident within 6 weeks. Not planned, was EBF round the clock, didn't have a period so had ovulated before that.

I found periods after birth were very very different to before getting pregnant too and didn't settle down for a while.

Good luck!
