Hi,
This is my first time using LH tests.
I don’t understand why there are still negative when I am supposed to ovulate tomorrow (see photo).
My cycle is 30 days, regular, and the app has five months of data now. Not been stressed or ill or hungover or anything.
Absolutely nothing shows up, just the control line (which is quite faint itself actually).
I’ve been testing after work, same
time every day.
What so you think is going on??
thanks!

The app has 5 months of data about your period, but this is the first time you've used LH tests?

If so, I would say the app assumes your ov date but you actually have been ovulating later! I would also start testing morning and evening now (actually would have done that for a few days now).

Yup, it’s also been using daily temperature measurement.
ok, I’ll do that! Thanks.
A positive LH test is 12-24 hours before ovulation, right?

Correct.

Your basal body temp will only rise after ovulation has occurred, so not great for telling you when to DTD! Using that and LH tests together was usually very accurate for me.

anotherscroller · 01/07/2022 20:25

Ah ok! I thought that it starts to rise a day before ovulation, don’t know why I thought that. Thanks very much!

Ok, another question.
Does LH always rise gradually or can it just suddenly surge?
Because my LH test today was negative the app has moved ovulation day back by two days.
i did one test at 6am and one now and they were both completely line free (see photo).
Surely so close to ovulation it would show up a bit today?
The only line I had (and very faint) was 5 days ago, but I have never in my whole menstruating life had a period cycle shorter than 29 days, so I think it’s really unlikely I “missed” it (I would guess that was just one of those times the test detects natural LH variations).
what do you think?
thank you!

LH tends to rise and fall rapidly which is why it is possible to miss the peak.

Hi @anotherscroller
LH can be either gradual or sudden, annoyingly. I tend to get it suddenly.. and only once. This cycle I tested twice a day, and got my peak in the evening one day, but none of the tests surrounding it were indicating it was coming. That's why it's best to test twice a day so you don't miss it.

Also, do you know that the line needs to be 'as strong as' or stronger than the control line? I didn't know that when I first started. If the line is less than the control then it's negative.. but could be building up to a peak.

Honestly, who knew ttc was this complicated 😂🤷‍♀️

anotherscroller · 03/07/2022 19:27

So complicated!
thank you so much though, I’m going to test more frequently (and if it doesn’t work this month then buy some cheap tests because my wallet is suffering eeek).
yes, I knew about the strong line thing (I.e. it’s not like a pregnancy test) thanks to my app which is a real hand-holder! Really realising how crap our sex ed lessons were at school …
I’ll let you know how it goes (even though you probably are bored stiff haha)

Yes, I used to think you just had sex and got pregnant, simple... but nope, got to pee on all these sticks 😒 which I'm now obsessed with!
Not boring at all! Keep us posted 😁 it's really good to hear other people's updates, I don't have anyone in 'real life' in a similar situation so I'm always having a nosey on here!

So sweet of you.
