Test getting lighter as pregnancy progresses?

Hi! First Time Mum here and very confused.

I took my first test 2 days after my first missed period (would've been 4 weeks pregnant at this point) and got a very strong positive result. I took another the next day, and another a few days later, all positive with two very prominent lines. These were all taken first thing in the morning with my first wee of the day!

Since then I've had some pregnancy symptoms (but only mild) and no bleeding or period etc. I've now missed two periods.

I'm now 9 and a half weeks pregnant and took a test yesterday out of curiosity and the line was SUPER faint. This was also my first wee of the day so I don't think it would be an issue with it being more diluted. I took another today and again the line is very faint. I've attached pictures.

I really don't understand this as surely it should be the other way around - the faint test should've been at the beginning and the strong one should be around now when the hormones are peaking.

I've googled it and it says I could've miscarried (but I haven't had any bleeding or sign of this happening), or that the pregnancy never took properly (a "chemical pregnancy"), but then I should've had a period by now and wouldn't have pregnancy symptoms.

My midwife says not to worry and it doesn't neccessarily mean anything because your hormone levels can drop, but I'm not convinced.

I am scared that when I go to my 12 week scan, there'll be nothing there!

Stop testing. Those are obvious positives.

It could be what is known as the hook effect. If you have another test you could do then try diluting your urine with water and then testing

No one can tell you. It could be twins or it could be mmc.

Can you book in for an early scan, privately?

After a quick google, it seems if hcg levels are very high, it produces a weaker line on a test. So you are worrying for no reason....congratulations on your pregnancy!! Try to relax. Like a pp suggested, if you dilute your urine sample with water you should see a stronger line....but honestly, stop with the tests and try not to worry.

Try lying on your back and feel just above your pubic bone, you should be able to feel a bit of a bump there, even if you're not showing yet.

Congrats!!

Had to google that, I'll try that thank you! I'm also going to try a digital test and see what that says. I just find it very odd that it got lighter instead of darker!

Yes I think I'm going to go for a private scan just for reassurance. I think the fact that I haven't had any major pregnancy symptoms isn't helping the matter either!

Thank you. In theory my hcg levels should be peaking right now, so I guess that could make sense! I'll try feeling above the pubic bone too.

Fingers crossed for you 🤞

Private scans are the way to go if the doubt creeps in…good luck!
