Too many follicles?

Hi there, just looking to see if anyone has any experience of having too many follicles growing during a medicated cycle? I had a scan yesterday (Friday) which was CD11 and I had 6 follicles (3 on right side, 3 on left) and all were measuring between 12-15mm. The doctor said I need to come back on Monday to check the progress and is hoping only 1 or 2 continue to grow because if they all grow then we can’t try this month due to the risk of multiple births being too high (which seems ironic seeing as we’re TTC 18 months and have never gotten pregnant!!). Has anyone any experience of this? I’m really hoping we don’t have to cancel this cycle!

Ironic, but entirely possible! The unit I used to work at were actually fined if a medicated cycle ended in a multiple pregnancy. Not sure who by or which governing body etc. but they take it very seriously.

Wow @USaYwHatNow, that’s really interesting, thanks for the insight! Here’s hoping only a couple of the follicles continue to grow over the weekend and we can go ahead and try this cycle 🤞🏼

@Spark2022 this happened to me back in January! It was our first medicated cycle using Clomid. Like you, I had 6 follicles. Unfortunately, they were too big when I went for my first monitoring scan, and so we were told not to try due to the risk of multiples. I felt so disappointed and very frustrated at having to waste a cycle. I have to admit I contemplated ignoring our consultant's advice and trying anyway (as you say, it's just so ironic when you've been trying for so long - at the time we had been trying for 19 months, with not even a hint of a bfp!). But it's true that multiples are very high risk (for the mum and babies) so we did cancel the cycle. Keeping everything crossed that it won't be the case for you, and just 1 or 2 of the follicles will have grown 🤞🙏

@kamaha It really does feel like such a waste, of both time and money! But I do understand. Although our doctor did say to have sex anyway over the weekend so I suppose there’ll still be a small chance even if we can’t try after the trigger shot. Time will tell!!

@Spark2022 definitely a waste of time and money! But that's great that the dr has said to have sex over the weekend anyway. I think that definitely means there's still a chance, and hopefully it will be good news tomorrow! All the best!
