Still plenty time to get a bfp x

Flederjo · 18/06/2022 09:17

It depends on how many days post ovulation, not post DTD

allgoodthings84 · 18/06/2022 09:19

It’s how many days post ovulation that matters more when testing than when you dtd. Do you know when you ovulated? 8dpo (days post ovulation) would still be early so I guessing you dtd on ovulation day or before? So likely still plenty of chance

Hiddenvoice · 18/06/2022 09:55

Still plenty of time if it’s only 8 dpo.
My positive test only showed up when I was 2 days late

Newbubs · 18/06/2022 13:50

Oh I didn’t realise I thought it went from dtd an the last time was 8days ago today
I didn’t track ovulation as its the first month trying i just made sure dtd all last week which would be 2 weeks from last period/ two week to my next

@Newbubs if you’re not pregnant this cycle it might be worth using opk to pinpoint down better when your ovulation is as not many women would ovulate exactly on day 14 of their cycle. Every person is different and often even for the same person it can be slightly different each cycle by a few days.

if you dtd lots over a week around about when you would ovulate then I’m sure some of it would have hit at the right time but yea it counts from ovulation not when you last dtd. You may have ovulated after you last dtd so less days than 8dpo so unlikely to show up on a test (not impossible but unlikely).

last cycle I had a weird one and ovulated CD17/18 when my cycles are only usually 26/27 days and I ended up having my period late too as the time from when I ovulate and AF arrives is about the same give or a take a day. I’m usually very regular so that cycle threw me (was my first month using a opk as I wanted to gauge when I ovulate). Then this cycle I ovulated CD12 which puts me back to my usual cycle length so no idea what happened last month. Think it was the stress of whether I ovulate or not. This is the first month of properly ttc so no idea how it’s going 😂

Ok thanks a lot what is opk? Lol
ive no clue. I just thought if i dtd regularly the week I suspect im ovulating then it would work ha
il try again properly next cycle its only first cycle of trying so im not too worried
i think i should be due af around Wednesday so we’ll see then,

OPK stands for ovulation predictor kit (I assume). You can get quite expensive ones but i just use cheap ones from Amazon and they do the trick. They're little cardboard strips and you dip them in pee every morning once your period is finished - when they show up with a second line that shows the presence of a hormone that is what triggers ovulation. It helps you pinpoint ovulation to make sure you DTD at the best time (and don't start/finish too early in your cycle).

Thanks @LeftTheWashingOut

With the cheap OPKs they generally suggest not using first morning urine - but check the pack for instructions.

Like with a pregnancy test there will be a test line and a control line. However, some women will have the test line throughout the month. A positive OPK is when the test line is as dark, or darker than the control line. Once you get the positive you usually ovulate 24-48 hours later.

If you DTD 8 days ago, it might be that you didn't ovulate until a few days later. Doesn't mean you are out because sperm can survive up to 5 days. So it's possible you ovulated less than 8 days ago in which case it's unlikely for a pregnancy test to show as positive.

If you have sex regularly throughout the month (every 2-3 days) then this should be ok but an OPK will show you which days to concentrate on. You don't really need OPKs if you have sex regularly throughout as you should catch ovulation at some point (assuming everything is ok and you ovulate)

If your period is due on Wednesday and you have a 14 day luteal phase (the time between ovulation and your period) then you would be around 11/12DPO. However, if you have a shorter luteal phase of say 10 days then you would only be around 7DPO which is early for a positive pregnancy test. Until you test for ovulation you may not know how long your luteal phase is.

Thank you so much @KatySp

i think it should have worked unless i ovulated early that is :-/
i dont really want to test now until after a missed period as its just disappointing
