Hi everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else has had an issue with ovulation tests not picking up an LH surge. In March I got pregnant and around the time I would’ve conceived I tested using tescos own ovulation tests & also home bargains
they never picked up an LH surge and they were always very light. They actually only got kind of dark (but still not positive) towards the end of my cycle
Unfortunately I had a missed miscarriage so we’re now trying again and i’m on cycle 1
I’ve got some clear & simple (body care) ovulation tests but they’re all very light again. They were darker than usual yesterday on CD12 so wondering if I had a surge but it didn’t pick up properly or I didn’t test at the right time?
Do you think it could be the tests? Not sure if I’m better off ordering some easy@home ones.
Also is it possible for your LH to surge rapidly and to not manage to pick it up using testing e.g. if it surges at night? No idea if that’s possible

Thanks

I use easy@home. Never really had a problem with them. Have you considered clearblue digital? They are a bit pricey but they work for me.

I have a quick surge so I never get a true positive where the test line is as dark or darker then the control line. But I know what is normal for me. Any other time of the month I have pretty much no test line.

My surge seems to be during the day but it is possible to have it during the night although most things I've read says best to check LH between 12-8. How often do you test?

I'm really sorry for your loss. Are you CD12 since a period or since the miscarriage? Having a MC can mess up your cycles for a bit so it might be your hormones still settling.

Definitely easy@home.

last cycle (wasn’t ttc just seeing how my body works) I ovulated late (and was 5/6 days late for AF which NEVER happens) and I am pretty sure my peak would have been overnight CD17/CD18 so I missed it. I have attached the tests so you can see what I mean

Then this cycle I am back to normal with ovulation I think (or will be when it happens) as my cycle is 26/27 days and today is CD11 and I am pretty sure I had my peak at around 5pm today. Will be confirmed when I test tomorrow morning I’m sure as the app doesn’t say peak until you get a test lower than the highest LH. I have attached this cycles tests too. I definitely go from low to peak very quickly.

I think I stressed out when OPK for first time last cycle. Stressing whether I ovulate or not which then pushed my ovulation back which messed up my whole cycle as I have been so ridiculously regular since my daughter was born so at least the last 7 years! I can only think I got too worked up worrying about if I’m too old to ovulate 😂 I’m 37.

Yes. I had blood tests and scans which showed I ovulate, but couldn't get on with urine OPK's which never showed a surge. I used a reusable saliva OPK. I could actually see the change and knew when I was ovulating. After 12yrs TTC- I saved £££ by not buying those expensive, urine ones every month. Its like a tiny microscope. My brand is 'Maybe Baby' but lots of others on amazon.

Thank you for the replies. I clearly don’t get on with the OPKs I’m using so I’m not going to bother next cycle. I’m not sure if I should just not track at all and just try to have sex every other day, but I also would like to know when to expect my period/test for pregnancy so i dont know :/

This is my first cycle after my miscarriage so I’ve had one period since my miscarriage. The last time I got pregnant I got my darkest test on CD13 but it still wasn’t very dark. I had a similar test yesterday on CD13 and today’s tests seem lighter so I think I am possibly ovulating today, the same as the last time I got pregnant. I sort of tracked last time out of curiosity and wasn’t really that worried about it as we were only on cycle 1 after getting my implant out. This time I am stressing myself out so much more

Looking at your post @allgoodthings84 I think it would be best if I keep testing just in case I do ovulate later, then maybe invest in some easy@home ones next time, thanks

@sausageandbeansx it’s definitely worth keep testing through your whole cycle at least once to get a proper idea. I’m 99% sure it’s no coincidence I ovulated late last month (meaning my AF was late too as LP stays the same) as I’ve not had a cycle more than 29 days in the last 7 years (didn’t track before that) and my usual is 26/27 days. So I’m thinking must have been me stressing about ovulation that delayed my ovulation. Oh the irony 😂.

This month it seems to be at a normal time for my cycle length and I’ve had EWCM yesterday and today so all fits. I haven’t stressed about it this month as after doing it last cycle I knew it would happen at some point.

Downside is that I can now see my cycle is on track to be 26 days this time. Yuck.

They always made out it was so easy to get pregnant when we were at school and just one time even if it’s during our period we will definitely be pregnant 😂

Update: turns out I was just being impatient because I’ve had a ‘high’ result today on cd16, yay

@sausageandbeansx yay so ovulation any date now 😊

Hi @sausageandbeansx
I also had a mmc on 25th May, though haven’t had a period yet. I started using opk’s 2 weeks after the mmc just to see if I ovulated (I didn’t track ovulation when conceiving the baby we lost). I started using One Step strips and didn’t even get a faint test line. I then got easy@home strips and some clear blue digital, and both showed peak on Thursday morning. I was a bit worried as I had no ‘high’ readings on the opk’s (picture below) but was reassured to at least see clear blue matched easy@home. I wish I’d never bought the One Step ones as I would have missed ovulation! And am desperate to get pregnant again. I also ovulated a week later than I usually would but sure this is because of the mmc.

Good luck 🤞🏼
