Letrozole/clomid

Hi. Has anyone had success with letrozole or clomid despite ovulating naturally?

My clinic have said it won’t benefit me as my cycles are regular and I seem to be ovulating but I’m wondering whether to go private to try it before resorting to IVF.

Thanks

Hi, nothing useful to really add to your question. But thought I’d comment anyway. I seem to be ovulating with regular cycles too, and no other known cause for my infertility. My clinic said they would suggest IVF and wouldn’t consider clomid or letrozole. Just wondering if you’re clinic thought clomid would help? And why? If you’re already ovulating how would it help? Not being rude, just curious if it might be an option for me before IVF.

Hi @emaW how regular are your cycles? My NHS clinic said no. But I went private and they’ve given it to me. My cycles are 26-34 days so they believed it could help me. The first month wasn’t successful because I didn’t respond to the dose but I’m having an increased dose for the next cycle. The way I looked at it was I was willing to try anything. It’s secondary infertility for us so we have to pay for IVF. It felt right to give the cheaper options a try first although I don’t feel overly hopeful! X

@emaW they said they thought regulating my cycles could be beneficial and that there’s some evidence it can improve the quality of the egg being released. I think it’s very mixed in terms of opinions. However, I do know some people in the same position as me that it’s worked for x

My cycles vary between 24-29 days, which I had assumed meant I was regular. This is secondary for me too, we’ve been trying for 17 cycles, tracking ovulation almost all of those months.

I’ve had the usually checks, scans, HyCoSy, blood tests, sperm count. It was my private clinic that said no to clomid, so maybe I can go back to them and ask again.

thanks for your response, it’s really helpful to hear others peoples experiences. I’m sorry that you’re struggling too.

@emaW may I ask whereabouts you are based and how old you are? Did you have any issues conceiving your first? This is our third, no issues with the first two and started TTC again when our youngest was 18 months so nothing makes any sense really. My tubes aren’t blocked but I did have a caesarean with my second so the consultant said there is a chance my tubes aren’t functioning correctly but they can’t test for that. Have you had your AMH done? X

@emaW we have been trying since April 2021 but the last couple of months have been wasted as I didn’t ovulate on letrozole on month 16 and because of that I’ve still had no period so will be onto month 18 by the time it all goes back to normal x

We sound very similar. I’m TTC my third since May 2021, so grateful that we conceived very easily my two girls now nearly 3 and 5. Started TTC no.3 when our youngest was 18 months. I naively assumed we wouldn’t struggle to conceive again. I’m 33 living in Manchester.
my AMH was 11.5 and HyCoSy clear. It’s so frustrating when all they can say is unexplained infertility.

Hoping43 · 20/08/2022 17:18

@emaW yeah really similar! I also have a 5 year old and a 3 year old who turned 3 just a couple of weeks ago. I live between Leeds and Manchester. Are you with Care? I’m 35 so a little older than you but my AMH in feb was 18.6 so they’re saying everything is normal for us too.

i don’t know how I feel about the letrozole at the moment. I wanted to try it before IVF but obviously I didn’t ovulate and I’ve had the longest cycle ever. Just want my period to come so I can move on and try the higher dose.

are you going to do IVF? We’re going to go with CARE for IVF in the New Year x

We’ve had tests with Manchester Fertility, but I don’t think I would go down the IVF route, for me I think it would be too much to handle. There comes a point where I just need to accept and move on. It makes me even more grateful for what we already have. I’ll let you know if they agree to let me try clomid. Let me know how you get on. xx

Hoping43 · 20/08/2022 20:26

@emaW I know what you mean but everyone else I know with two seems to just be able to have three and I don’t understand why we can’t. Obviously I am super grateful as well for my two but I just can’t move on from it xx

@emaW good luck! I’ll keep you posted xx

Clomid

Hi everyone, looking for some sort of reassurance/success stories. Im due to start my first cycle of clomid in July. I’m 38, have regular cycles, 28-30 days, been told everything is normal, partners sperm count is normal, but we’ve been TTC for 18 months with no luck 😔. Starting to lose hope so wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation? I’ve never been pregnant so that’s making me wonder if it’s even possible for me
