Ovulation testing kits

After my miscarriage in November after 15 weeks, we are actively ttc again. I would like to start using ovulation tests. I am hoping not to have to buy a monitor as they are too expensive for me just yet.

Please could someone tell me how many I might need to buy to get started for the firt month. I am so desparate to maximise my chances of conceiving.

Any advice is much appreciated

I use ebay cheapies. Not sure if they work yet as I have no idea when I ov but most people say they're good enough. You can by them in sets of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 50. I'd start with 10 this cycle and see how you go, best of luck

Are there any recommended makes? Do some work different to others?

I used ebay cheapies and they worked for me. Clearblue digital ones (the ones with the smiley face) are apparently much better but I couldn't afford them every month. I suppose that if you wanted to test the accuracy of the ebay strips then you could use them and the clearblue together one month (on the same sample).

As long as you follow the instructions of the eBay ones properly you should find they work OK though. With mine you had to let the sample settle and reach room temperature before testing - with the clearblue you just wee on it (I think). I suppose leaving a sample to settle for 15 mins if you are at work might be a bit of a problem - most suggest testing at 2pm.

I didn't want to spend loads of money every month on sticks as if things do work out as planned that month you have the wasted money to get upset about too.

Temping was the best way for me to maximise my chances though - highly recommend that one (not too expensive either - you can get the thermometers second hand on ebay and chart for free online)

I used the clearblue digital ones and at £20 they are expensive but I felt worth the money as they gave a deffinate yes or no. You get 7 in a pack and only need to test until you get a smiley face so 7 can be enough for 2 months. Good luck.

I was wondering if provided you are bd'ing every other day during around time of ov, will the testing strips make any difference in helping. We usually try one week after af up to a week before next af on an every other day basis.

I really want to try and get it right this time. I have lost weight, changed my diet and are trying to look after myself now to try to maximise my chances.

Last time I fell pregnant on cd17 of a 27 day cycle, will this make any difference?

twinklewishes, that sounds like a very good plan - esp if your cycles are relatively regular and you can stand all that bding . tbh I have heard a lot of people get very anxious over the OV sticks - sometimes they don't pick up OV even though it has occurred - and I think the extra stress is probably counter-productive (in every sense of the words!)

If you were going to use the methos you describe I would really recommend temping too. I got pregnant this time only because I was temping. I OV'd late that cycle but since I hadn't detected the rise in BBT I kept BDing until it was clear the rise had occurred. If I had stuck to my normal plan (same as yours almost) then that month would have been a no-no.
