Do we delay TTC or not

Long story short, we’ve been TTC on and off for a couple of years now. I’ve been having unrelated health problems, which I’m due to have an operation for. I’ve been told it’s best to only have this operation once I’ve finished having children, so I’m rather keen to start trying again because 1. I really would like another baby, and 2. I’m really keen to get this op done as soon as possible. Technically we could be trying now, however I’m due my 3 yearly smear test at the beginning of July. I know I’m just being impatient but should we go ahead trying and IF we were successful then I’d have to delay my smear. Or should I wait to get my smear done first. Obviously it would only delaying trying for another month and I understand the importance of having these screenings done, but I just feel like I’ve waited so long already, another month will feel like ages!

For the sake of a month, I'd wait

Could you call the doctor and move the smear test? Normally they would do things like that a month early. Always worth asking, worse they can say is no?

Thank you ladies, I think I will just try and be patient and wait the extra month. It’s nothing in the grand scheme of things. I’m in my ovulation window now so I don’t think moving the smear test forward would help if this cycle was to be successful, if that makes sense?

Is there a reason you’re so keen for the smear? I honestly wouldn’t even have had this on my radar or know when my next one is due! I just go when I get the letters.

I wouldn’t hold off unless you’re high risk.

I would wait the extra month. I say this because if one of my closest friends had delayed her smear by a year her life would be very different now. If just delaying by a month or so would be fine but if you conceive quickly it could be nearly a year before you have your smear. In the scheme of things it’s one extra month, unless your operation is life saving it’s not long to wait

I'd ask for your smear test to be brought forward.

DontLoseYourFightKid · 09/06/2022 17:43

@Mushroo I had my letter through last month and the beginning of July was the earliest they could book it for. I definitely wouldn’t have remembered otherwise 😅

@allgoodthings84 this is exactly my concern. I know I need to do the right thing and have my smear done first. I hope your friend is doing ok now 💞
