Getting pregnant and thyroid issues

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are both 33 and trying for our first baby (2 cycle and currently 10dpo).

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (Hashimoto) in my early 20s and have been taking medication since. My medication needs to be adjusted everyone now and then (right now I am on a slightly higher dose as my endocrinologist recommended this since we are TTC).

I am also aware that thyroid issues can affect fertility. Wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

I couldn’t conceive so went for tests, found out I was hypothyroid so started taking thyroxine. Got pregnant 12 months later. Only time my thyroxine has ever increased was in that pregnancy, and it’s never decreased again.

Thank you for sharing. I am glad it worked out for you. I hope we will also be lucky and be able to conceive

I have Hashimoto’s as well, it took years to stabilise with Thyroxin. Once it was stable (hormone levels around 1.0) I got pregnant fairly quickly - keep monitoring your levels and insist on dose adjusting if you start to go to 2.0 and above.

I also needed more Thyroxin at the end of the pregnancy, which then came back down after delivery.

Yes, as long as you’re on the right level of levothyroxine you‘ll be fine. I was TTC for 10 months with cycles all over the place, once I started on the meds my cycles became much more regular and I was pregnant 6 months later.

Thank you. That's very reassuring!
