Need help understanding this OPK results!

Hi all,

We’re TTC following an ectopic. I’ve never used OPKs before. What’s going on here? I saw a peak on CD14 (which was Sunday) and we DTD on that day. But is that the real peak if I now have these other fluctuating high-ish readings too? It’s gone down, up, down and then up again in the last two days. (Yes, I’ve done lots of testing the last three days!)

Thank you!

All of your lines look quite dark to the extent that it’s quite hard to see a definitive peak. It even looks like you might have multiple peaks. Like your body is trying hard to ovulate but just can’t quite get that really dark line if that makes sense? I would say it’s worth doing a blood test if you haven’t already to work out what’s going on. For reference I’ve attached what my peaks look like, followed by an OPK a few days after the peak.

Try to do opks at least until CD23. One month I had a bit similar and then suddenly it peaked on CD22. Out of blue as I say.

Hey!
I have just joined and saw your thread. It looks like you have strong lines! I am CD19. I had a CP last month and have not yet had a period. Dtd every other day but have not yet pinpointed when/if I've O'd 😩😔 what do you think of this one? I'll attach a photo. This is as dark as it has been.

Thanks for sharing your pics and for looking at mine. I have been reading about people having biphasic cycles and people who have cycles that plateau but I’ve no idea where mine fits. Typical that it would be awkward for me 😂 although saying that I had pains on Monday (CD15) that felt like I was ovulating so I think it may have happened already. I will just keep testing though and see how it pans out. Frustrating that OPKs are supposed to tell me when I’m ovulating but I’m none the wiser looking at these results!

Hey, sorry to hear about your CP. Sounds like you are doing all the right things by DTD every other day and looking out for ovulation. I am not very experienced at all in OPKs but I think that looks like a low level of LH. All you can do it keep testing! Waiting is so frustrating isn’t it.

Thank you. I’ll keep testing until AF arrives and see how it pans out! I mean I guess my body could still be trying to settle after my ectopic I suppose.

Hi @WednesdayStar4 I'll attach a pic of my set of OPKs to show you the progression, and how obvious the peak was.

You wrote "OPKs are supposed to tell me when I'm ovulating" but this isn't 100% correct. OPKs only predict ovulation. They tell you when your LH is surging, and yes, ovulation usually follows this but not always. Like a pp said, maybe your body was gearing up to ovulate but then didn't/couldn't, and it tried again with little surges of LH.
Or you have a high underlying level of LH in your body and it's therefore tricky to see the peak - less sensitive tests might help.

The only ways to confirm ovulation are temping and having day 21 bloods taken for progesterone. Actually, the "day 21" means 7 days after predicted ovulation. So hard to determine! Temping might be a good idea? Google it and search Mumsnet for threads, it's really easy and interesting!

Forgot the pic. Here it is.

Thank you so much! Really helpful. I’ll have a read about temping.

Do you think it’s possible to have LH rises/dark results even after ovulating? So is it possible I could have ovulated on CD 15 even with the little peaks afterwards?

We DTD on CD 11, 13, 14 and 16 and honestly it’s becoming a chore I need 3 or 4 days off but unsure if I’m now going to miss my high fertility days!

Thanks again 😊

Hhhmm , @WednesdayStar4 not sure about that to be honest! Gut feeling would say no, after ovulation there would be no LH surges because progesterone rises and all the hormones are intricately linked.....less of this and more of that one, this one reduces and that's other increases etc etc.
However I'm not a biologist/endocrinologist or anything so take it with a pinch of salt!

Thank you for reply! That makes sense. I’ve read different things in different places and honestly can’t make head nor tail of it.

I think I am just going to stop tracking because it’s driving me mad.

thanks for your help 😊

Wanted to update this thread in case it helps anyone out in the future.

I recently had an internal scan and turns out I ovulated twice. So that’s probably what the chaotic ovulation tests are about 😊

@WednesdayStar4 at least you had double the chance lol , I ovulated on the 11th. I am now 5weeks 2 days pregnant. Just the very next cycle after my CP .. preying this is a sticky one!
